Different states set different limits or non at all. I would call the police and ask . Then I would verify that this person is a sex offender and not an innocent person that lives at a house where the previous tennet was a sex offender. Not all data basis are up to date and because the police are too busy they cant check to see if the address is still correct and if the offender still lives there.
Case in point a house in IN was identified on the states data base as where a sex offender lived, the man was very mistreated by the police and his neighbors before finding out it was not he that was the offender but the previous owner of the house he had purchased the year before. So be sure ,but err on the side of your child's safety.

The differences vary not only by State and Federal law, but by whether the sex offender is "registered" or not, and may also depend on what level they are registered on, so be sure of your facts before taking any action.

The links below give some news stories about restrictions and a link to nationwide registries where you can see who is registered in your state, etc., who to contact, etc.

Check with your state. Sex Offenders are not allowed to live within a certain distance of schools, or anywhere that children congregate.

Absolutely Not!!! They can't live any closer than 1 mile from a
school, or even a school bus stop. Check with your law enforcement on your present location.

It depends on the city law, but YES you can. They can not be in what a school considers a walk zone area. Where the bus dont pick them up and they have to find there own way to school. I would potition it

I would think in the USA, not, but each state has diff laws about that--check with your local county sheriff.
