I'm hardly a math genius, but ^ means "to the power of".
Examples: 2^2 = 2 to the second power = 2 squared = 4
x^2y^3 = x to the second power times y to the third power = x squared times y cubed
Don't feel too bad; I had to think about that for a minute when I first saw it typed. Without superscript functions, it's the best way to express "to the power of".
Have a great day!

It's used for exponents when you can't do a superscript (for example, here).
5^2 = 5 squared = 25
4^4 = 4 to the 4th power = 256
2^10 = 2 to the 10th power = 1024
etc.

it doesn't tack a genius to figure that out! you use them in powers
like- 5^2=25, 5X5=25
or- 3^4=81, 3X3X3X3=81
next time be more challenging
