Corruption disables democracy, but can survive some. It has the same effect in Nigeria as it does everywhere else.
How about the effect of sharia law in the north of Nigeria on democracy?

isn't it amazing how the psychopaths always seek to get the "top" jobs, even in a "democracy"? look at the ones here in the USA, as well. the scandals are "theatre of the absurd" and endless. and, the themes are always the same: greed, sex, general powermongering and endless lies. no matter which country is involved, the results are the same--loss of faith by the electorate, and theft of everything by the administration, thus causing the country to fall into decline. what will it take? unfortunately, the promise of power just about always attracts the ego ridden, when who we really need in charge are the "philosopher -kings", i.e. those who truly are there to serve the people, not just primarily themselves and their cronies. only a substantial shift "upward" in the consciousness of the human race will alleviate the problem, i think. it may be a while.

It's one of the worst. It's a shame because it could be a wonderful, prosperous place without the corruption.
