Hello dear!
Well, I do not call them as Eleusinian Cults, but Eleusinian Mysteries!
For centuries, if not millenniums, at Eleusis, there was a world center of knowledge. They were celebrating the seasons, time, regeneration of Nature (Production collecting and preparation)!
Great philosophers served as high "priests" in Eleusis! In ancient Greece, priests were more than people trying to convince people about their own believes, as a matter of fact they were not doing anything close to it. They were philosophers who were delivering their knowledge to the participants and everyone, according to the level they could absorb.
Since the times of the Roman emperor Constantine, who ordered the destruction of Eleusis and the killing of anyone who would be there, most, if not all, the documents, libraries, etc. were destroyed and the wisdom collected for centuries is lost!
During the Eleusinian Mysteries there were new ideas coming, based on the gained experience and knowledge. At the end of the Mysteries, there was a convoy of thousands of people, who walk to Athens, reach Parthenon (the temple of Athena, the goddess of Wisdom), replace the old veil of Athena and then celebrate sacrificing 100 cows and, of course have a great feast!

The Proto-Gnostics and Gnostics claimed to be actual fans of Christ and consequently there was once so much power given to refuting them within the NT and the writings of the Early Fathers. Thus biblical experiences and Church historians in these days provide extra concentration to the Gnostics.
