Answer from a non-American:

Recognising that an American with a purely American world-view is an anachronism in the 21st century.

Realising that you cannot stand on neutral ground, or shy away from having a view, on the effect of American policy on the rest of the world.

Does this mean putting American interests aside? Not al all.

To be blunt, the process of un-f***ing a pretty f***-up world is going to take time and pain.

Most of all, it's going to take informed leadership.

Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country, so it can do the same for others.

With great power comes great responsibility. Which is why America's got to stay in the dialogue.

It means to love your country and to have pride in all of your country's people. Patriotism is NOT agreeing with the government's every move if it isn't acting as America's government should, i.e., following the Constitution and the consent of the people.

A truly Patriotic american by Constitutional right does not have to agree with the government in any way and has the right to civilly protest and attest to and request changes in our government.

in other words, those who do not support our current situation and are complaining are in every right still patriots

The Constitution. The Constitution is the back bone of the country. The more we grow the Federal Government the less true freedom we will have.

Fighting for the freedom and power of those people who are most valuable to all other Americans. Patriotism is not blind obedience to authority and privilege--that is unAmerican, so if the people who told you to fight in a war got their own sons out of the fighting, you have no honor if you tolerate that.

That most Ameircans are followers and not leaders, like yourself. That most Americans are too coward to fight for their country but they are always ready to citicize the very people that are fighting so they could be on YA asking stupid questions.

love honor and protect your country and the Constitution at all costs...even if that means going against the government, or even your own family ( though family should come before country )
Dont let the media rhetoric persuade you, and dont let the politicians scare you...
