Well if you don't want to change the flooring then tone it with that, otherwise then grab some paint charts and the world's your oyster!
Just remember that dark colours are not necessarily oppressive in small spaces. When we moved into our house the downstairs loo was painted a dark forest green. It sounds like it should be horrible, but it's the only colour I've kept! It really looks nice with a sheer curtain, the white of the toilet and sink break up the darkness.

In my downstairs loo. I plan to paint the walls a warm rich cream, with a black toliet seat and a cast iron mirror. I am gonna replace the loo handle with an ivory effect one and put up some cream and black flock wallpaper style canvas pictures. It will look really rich.
For your bathroom you could go mad,but it depends on the age of your house tho. Its the smallest room in the house. If it is only a loo why not put up some large patterned wallpaper?

Sky blue, with a white suite. That's how ours is, and it looks kinda seaside-y. Put a few carefully chosen accssories in there and it'll be a delight to have a bath in the bathroom. It's also bright and cheery without getting grubby too quickly, the way yellow or white would.

Try a themed colour scheme. If you like the seaside then try colours that represent it (blues, greens, turquoise). If you want to be reminded of a Roman Spa then choose the colours that bring it to mind (reds, oranges, browns, gold). It's better to stick to a theme rather than just choose a colour in my experience and it makes decorating more imaginative and enjoyable.

Pick nice light colours if the rooms arent to large..Go to a d.i.y store and take a look at some of the colour chart catalogues they have and compare..U can also buy small tester pots in the colours u like and try them at home till u find the one u like..I hope this helps..

bathrooms are traditionally blues white silver and blue/greens to reflect water and freshness. but like they said if it's a small room keep it light with mirrors to make it look bigger.
bigger and more modern ones seem to be earth tones and wood or stone and silvers / greys.
when i was little we had blue with painted fish and beach creatures, fun for kids.
saying that now mine's covered wall to wall in 'the darkness' (not the band!) comics so my other half can sit and read the walls.

A nice tangerine or aqua colour with sea shell motifs etc so that it reminded you that you live by the seaside! I'd come and help you do it, but I don't like painting!!

depends what goes well with your suite. I tend to stick to light tones of blue for bathrooms and toilets.
