1 litre equals 1 cubic decimeter. This means there are 10x10x10 litres in a cubic meter. In other words approximately 1000 litres in a m^3.

1000 litres = 1 cubic metre = 1m^3
Basically - just take a cube 10cm x 10cm x 10cm = 1 litre
You'll find you can fit 1000 of these cubes into a cubic metre
i.e. 10 cubes long x 10 cubes wide x 10 cubes deep = 1000 cubes = 1000 Litres
Peter g is the only other correct answer here before this one - the rest are nonsense

1 m^3 = 100 x 100 x 100 = 1,000,000 cm^3
1 litre = 1000 cm^3
1,000,000 / 1000 = 1000
so there are 1000 litres in one cubic metre.
You can visualise this roughly by picturing a box that is 1m x 1m x 1m and fitting 1000 orange juice cartons into it!
