I would not say easy. It was not extremely difficult. The freshman year can be rough and awkward. Its a new building, new classes, new teachers, new peers and classmates. I attended catholic school for 9th thru 12th grades, and as far as schoolwork goes, 9th grade is the easiest next to 12th grade.
It goes quick though, and the four years of high school are the last four years you will have to experience a world of little responsibility. Once you enter the college world and then the work force, the levels of responsibility increase exponentially.
Enjoy every experience and opportunity.

My grades were the best they've ever been. This coming year I'm going into honors bio and honors US History and I had a 3.6 GPA for the year and a combined 3.75 GPA on exams, including both midterms and finals.
The hard part though was really finding your place. I mean sure there's things like freshman and JV sports teams but I was on swimming and track, 2 sports that aren't divided that way. Plus going from the big fish in the small pond to the small fish in the big pond was rather confusing. And for the cherry on top our town hasn't had a high school for 80 years and they just send us off to a neighboring town so meeting all new people was a challenge too. Plus the 2 town's aren't even a formal district AND we're the last class to go to the other school since the construction for our town's HS is just underway and the class of '10 is going to be the first class to graduate, not my class of '09.

Kind of a naive question, but it is a fair one.
The answer will obviously depend on you. If you have a lot of friends entering the first year, along with you, then things will be a lot easier than if you are starting a new high school knowing no one.
Will the classwork be harder? Well, it should be, but if you were handling the workload in junior high, then you'll be fine. If you were just skating along and doing minimum to get along, you may be in for a rough time, because you will have an entirely different set of teachers. By the time you get to high school, they will be expecting you to either prepare for college, or for a job.
As far as being a freshman and the new kid in the school, that wears off pretty fast, so, no worries, there.

Well, in my own experience it was kind of easy, because my first year of high school was 10th grade, and during that grade I was in ESL class. So it was easy. You have to get used to the schedule class, the books, where the classrooms are, how the teachers work, the environment, (for me English was something new too), etc; but you get learning all that by the time. Don't worry if you're going to your first grade of high school. Am sure you will enjoy it! You feel like a mixture of excitement and fear for experiencing something new, but later on that gets part of your funny memories. I'm part of the graduation class of 2005, and I got a lot of nice memories (specially 10th and 12th grade). I think that specially during your senior year, you have a lot of fun. Right now, I'd give you the advice to choose well your friends, because --believe me-- they can make a difference in your future. High School is a period of change, and what you become there is what --perhaps-- you would be for the rest of your life (unless something happens).
Eleven grade was a bit more difficult for me though, since it was my first year in regular classes, some new teachers, and I had to carry more books --which were heavier too-- than in ESL class. But, as I told you, you get used to it, so do not worry.
I really hope you enjoy it, take care and God bless you!

Ah the 1st year of high school was the best, you have ssoooo many more freedoms and you make so many new friends. The school work on a whole was not that much harder, the 1st day was a little nerve-racking.I can remember being nervous and excited at the same time. Just relax on your first day and try and stick with people you know. You'll have a great time! Good Luck.

Let's see, my first year of high school was in 9th grade; for me, it was the 1986-87 school year. I learned a lot, I'll admit that. It was the first year I came within a hair's breadth of failing a class, Alegbra I Honors with Mrs. Luke. I'd come in with the impression (which some of my classmates helped foster) that I was the brain of the class and could handle anything. That . . . didn't quite work out.
I also learned a lot more about thinking on my feet. Although I'd been involved in plays before this, it was my first year taking Speech -- and a good deal of that is improvisation. I also learned to pack lightly -- for a Saturday trip to a forensics tournament, you do NOT need three small bags!
My first year in high school was far from bad, but it's when I realized I had a lot of growing up to do, not just academically but in nearly every other area of life. It's about as easy as a growth spurt; that "freshman orientation" doesn't come CLOSE to preparing you for the real thing, but it's ultimately worth it.

The education part is just an extension of Jr. High...(not so bad !)the social part --a little more difficult!!! I am not going to tell you that it is a breeze....there are a lot of changes that will take place this year in your life...not only will you be dealing with a new level of education, but new level of hormones, changes in your body...(watch out for the dreaded "acne"..) and new social opportunities.Unfortunatley... high school (like life) doesn't come with an instruction manual...you will be "winging" it. Hopefully, you will have friends from you jr. high that will be in the same H.S. you will be...it is customary for the freshman's to be the "butt" of everything...just remember this: there is strenghth in numbers! Stick close to your old friends, and make some new friends from the other "newbies" that will be there ...also very important...remember...this too will pass!!!! Just try not to stress over these things too much as life is hard enough on teens! And also ...Jrs. and Srs. think it is their "unalienable" right to rule and cause grief and embarrassment to each and every freshman they meet... Look to the Soph. to be your advisor and informants...and your allies!!!...after all THEY were the freshman class LAST year... (the "wounds" are still fresh enough for them to have a little bit of "compassion") feel as if "doom and gloom" is enevitable??? Not really...it will be hard to see things as they truly are while you are in the midst of it....but you are about to embark on a wonderful journey in your life and you will be creating outrageous memories to share with a few lifelong buds that will bring many many years of happiness down the road....So take a deep breath...and get going...this is a right of passage that you will remember a lifetime ....and when things get a little tough...remember....YOU (and the rest of the freshmans!) are the Sophmores of "tomorrow" ...and the Juniors....and the SENIORS!!!!!!!!

It is don't panic. You'll probably be with all the friends you had in Middle/Junior high school so there's really nothing to worry about. You freshman year should be a breeze. Just do your best and have fun High School is the one experience you will never forgot. Enjoy it now because once you graduate and move on to either college or straight to the working force it gets tougher. One day you'll look back at your high school years and think Damn I wish I had more time to be young, or where did the time go and what ever happened to so & so. You'll be fine.

The actual school year is pretty easy. The classes are a little harder but its like that every year. Dont sweat it. The hardest thing about freshman year is getting use to new things. The teachers give you more freedom, but with that comes more responsibility. Also most high schools are seperate from the middle and elementary schools so you have to get use to a new enviroment. Just relax, do your best, and have fun; then you will be fine. It was my favorite year.
