My friend has a chevy lumina who when she comes to a stop the car shakes badly. She just had the tranny rebuilt and new brakes. I'm guessing the transmission mount is loose? What's your thoughts?

i'm pretty sure she mentioned that her rotors have been replaced or were in excellent condition.

The only reason I personally think its the tranny mount, is because in personal experience, the mount had a small crack and it was a little lose, and the van would shake when slowing down. I mean, she comes to a complete stop, no slipping, sqealing or any funny noises, it just shakes a bit.

Either the transmission mount was not placed back on correctly or the engine mount

Is the car shaking when completely stopped or when it is slowing to a stop, or both?
If it is when she is coming to a stop, I would check the brakes, if she just had them worked on, maybe they left a rotor loose, or torqued the lugnuts improperly and may have warped a rotor. If the rotor is warped she will feel a vibration in the brake pedal.
If she feels the vibration when she is completely stopped then I would check the fuel filtet and motor and transmission mounts.
If the car shakes when it is stopped and at idle, you can try to locate the source of the vibration.
Good Luck

There is a problem with the brake system. Take the car in for inspection at a certified repair shop (not the one that installed the brakes). There may be problems with other parts but definitely with the brake system. She can aways call the tappet brothers, Click and Clack. They have a radio call in show every Sat. morning at 10am on NPR. They will agree with me I'm sure.

I used to have a 70" Ford F100 with a 2 hundred in it. It grew to develop into out to be the large vacuum line coming off the brake booster (previous proprietor put in ability brakes) . I appeared at it quite a few circumstances and couldn't see something incorrect with it, despite the indisputable fact that the decrease back area of the line changed into dry rotted.. i could verify all the vacuum lines. because it really is an automatic, it may also be the torque converter. verify all the straightforward stuff first, it appears like your incredibly searching for an air leak despite the indisputable fact that.

It sounds like warped rotors (front brakes) if the brakes were done did they replace the rotors or hav ethem turned? (machined) If so you friend may be hard on the brakes. short stops. heating them up and going throug a puddle will also warp rotors quickly.

I had that happen to my car. A good guess is the fuel filter, which is luckily pretty cheap ($40-50) as cars go. Do something about it now, because I didn't, and my fuel pump ended up going bad, which cost about $1,000

Take it back to the mechanic who did the work. Explain what's happening and have him test drive it.
