do you think Persian (Iranian) people are smart ? (non-Iranians plz)?

well....I've been to Iran for 2 times and I found people really smart.
It's hard to study there bc it's so competitive and there are too many geniuses over there .
DO NOT TALK ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT & THE ******* PRESIDENT FOR GOD'S SAKE . I'M SICK OF IT JUST ANSWER THE QUESTION .

The problem with your experiences is that there are three possible explanations for it. First, your supposition might be correct and the Iranians are "smart." Second, your experience may have been skewed by some factor (preconceived notion, random happenstance, etc). Thirdly, they may merely be smarter than you but still comparatively average or worse than any other given country. Without further evidence, your question itself implies the third option. One can hardly talk about the intelligence of a people without talking about the government that they continue to allow to rule. To offer a foil against such a statement, one can hardly estimate American intelligence without taking into account both George Bush Jr. and Thomas Jefferson.

As for the question itself, I am full well willing to suppose that they might be knowledgeable; however I would have to pause at calling them intelligent. No critical mind capable of intelligent could last under the propaganda that they are subject to. Such a mind would flee, submit, or rebel. This is merely to say that they do no display unusual intelligence, not that they are lacking in that area more than any other country.

So to summarize, they show all signs of being average.

I totally agree with you. Its true that there are intelligent people everywhere, but whether there are a lot of intelligent people in a country or not is a different thing. For example, in Malaysia there were no great conributions we have made towards science & technology, so I would summarize as a whole the nation are not really that intelligent. Look at Iranian history, and there is an overwhelming list of science & math contributions( In fact the great Islam golden era, most of the math & science contributions came from Persia). And lets face it, there are a lot of Iranian working in Europe & U.S in the professional sectors. And they usually finish in the top 10 of International Math Olympiad( Despite being a poor country poorly organize education system). If one day the government decide to do a 180 to their whole economic & education system, I wouldn't be surprise if they could catch up with the west in 30, 40 years.

yes we are,when i was 6 i could read magazines and speak a little English even though is not my damn native language,i could call many different countries names and their capital cities and so on.if you ask average American where Iran is on the globe they don't even know,they think Germany still is under rule of Nazi, Hitler believe me or not it is true.at least we are smarter than average European and American,i can say Indians,Japanese,Chinese are at same level smart or maybe more.I supposed to not answer this question because i am Iranian nationality but honestly i have to tell the truth whether Americans or others like it or dislike it.i do not care about our government harsh attitude towards our girls because they landed by the name of Islamic revolution and people do not respect laws they always grumble about their freedom while some they do not know people in Canada or America having hard time to even survive.

I think iranian people are so smart, we've so many Iranian at NASA, About 43% of NASA are Iranian scientists, Landsat scientific journal introduced an Iranian doctor as the best Breast Cancer Surgery at Britain & he is my hometown, Iran have 7000 years-old civilization that have so many brave & scientists

Please don t forget that Iran (Persia) is not just a country and this entity is known as most eldest government and one of the ancient civilizations over world. It means people that built and made this civilization were so sharp and intelligent. some scientists say that for every 25 years civilized life for any people , IQ will grow one point. If this termination be correct, we can underestand why Iranian people at least in east and in compare of European people are intelligent.

Yes, I can tell they are particular,delicate and complicated! that's because of their culture and educational environment... however, about IQ I'm not sure!
But all my friends who have studied in UK, USA, Turkey, and other European or American countries reported that Iranian are so smarter than the most of their classmates...!!!

Iranian are smart. The number high educated people are much more higher than people in US and Europe.
BUT
They have a stupid goverment which has destroyed the country.
