It has been three years since you saw her or spoke with her?
Either way what you can do is invite her out for a movie or just for coffee or a soda, depending on your age group.
Let her know that you are not trying to push up on her but, you miss her friendship and would like to be a part of her life as her friend, if she is okay with that, she will tell you, but just remember it's really hard to become friends with an ex-girlfriend/boyfriend sometimes so make sure that you take it slow okay, don't push her or try to rush it, because you have your whole life to work on a friendship, and it is really hard to find and keep real friends now days.

I wish you both the best of luck...........

I think you've just said it yourself. Keep it simple and say you regret the misunderstanding and that you still have affection for her. see how she responds to that. if she feels the same she'll make the next move.

I think she may have a hard time understanding you if you write something. Just call her or talk to her face to face. Pour your heart out to her.
