If you have an abortion, you can't have anything 'in you' for like 6 weeks I think. You can't even take a bath or go swimming because the water would get in there... so if you can't be inseminated, you can't get pregnant.

I know that you can get pregnant after an abortion. No worries. A friend of my mother's had an abortion when she was young, but she has 3 kids now. It doesn't ruin your chances of getting pregnant. It just ruins the current pregnancy, you get what I'm sayin?

I have had an abortion. I regret it now though. The only advice I can give you is to think long and hard about this decision.

Also, go on the shot or the pill or something and make sure you ALWAYS use a condom. I know, I sound like all the adults and blah blah blah... but it's true.
Practice safe sex.

Good luck with your decision and the rest of your life.

Of course you can have children. A first trimester abortion performed by a physician is one of the safest procedures ever, many times safer than childbirth. The procedure itself takes less than five minutes, bleeding is minimal and you are usually quite comfortable.

Edited to add: a first trimester is not a "blind procedure" the physician has your uterus on ultrasound. There are no "sharp objects", a slim suction catheter about as wide as a drinking straw is inserted to empty the contents of the uterus. Again, an abortion by a reputable licensed physician is the safest surgical procedure you could endure, physically about as dangerous as having a mole or wart lasered away. Yes, it's safer than circumcision, safer than a boob job, safer than having your wisdom teeth removed, safer than having a root canal, *much* safer than vaginal birth and waaaaay safer than a c-section. I'm tired of the drama. Why add scare tactics? If your position is that the unborn are people who deserve the same rights as the mother, even from conception, then that argument should stand on it's own. Posting links to anti abortion sites weakens the argument. And I'll tell you what's sick. Sick is pro-life people fishing fetus parts out of the garbage can, rearranging their limbs and taking photos of them.

FYI, unlike some posters reponsding to this question, I am not some 15 year old who has been getting info off anti-abortion sites, or from their friends. I am a 38 year old woman who has other interests than abortion. It seems some others on this thread merely search for the keyword "abortion" and post only to respond to those questions. On a personal note, I have had three first trimester abortions myself for various reasons. I have also had two miscarriages - unrelated - one was a blighted ovum where the fetus never grew.. I have also had three full term pregnancies. I am an Registered Nurse who has worked in OB clinics, Planned Parenthood, Labor & Delivery, Postpartum and Lactation. I have seen hundreds of women give birth and I had access to their entire reproductive history with their medical files and I have never seen a *single* case of a first trimester abortion leaving a woman with any problems at all whatsoever.

An abortion should not be taken lightly, obviously there are are alternatives. And certainly having an abortion will have an effect on you. But certainly not the effect raising a child their entire life will, or even giving a child up for adoption. Much greater effect, believe me. Only you can make the decision, but if abortion is a consideration for you, do it quickly. I do not recommend or condone abortion after 13 weeks unless the mother or infant's life is in jeopardy. The earlier the better!

Yes there is a possibility for complications and infertility after an abortion. However, I know a few people that have had an abortion and had children later on without any problems. Of those people that had children later none of these children were very soon after the abortion but a few years later.

I even know of one woman that pretty much uses abortion as a form of birth control and has had more than 6. Apparantly they have not affected her fertility.

In between all the preaching jag-offs there are some truths. Yes you can still have kids. Yes a botched procedure is possible, but that's the same risk with all medical procedures. The abortion is there to prevent the child from growing up in a position that will not sustain it. It's no more murder than the removal of a cyst or cancerous cell is. Research and practice safe sex ALWAYS. Let this be the lesson learned, not the escape from ignorance. Good luck, kid.

No criticism here, my friend. And please, just ignore all those who are on their high horses telling you that you are bad or that you shouldn't wonder about having another child if you're going to "kill" this one. Don't let them scare you into thinking you will never be able to have another child. Things happen, circumstances change and sometimes we find ourselves doing things we never thought we would do.

Deciding to have an abortion is a difficult decision and one that has to be decided only by you. Just know that almost all abortions are done without ever affecting the chances of having children in the future.

If you choose to get an abortion, you will be able to have children in the future.
For the people telling you that you are "no good" or you won't be able to or whatever are wrong.
It's your life and your choice. We should be thankful that we have the option of choosing what is right for ourselves.
If I chose not to have an abortion 11 years ago, I would not be where I am today. Good Luck.

If you had an abortion, why would you get pregnant soon after?? What makes you ready now and not then?? I know women that have had a couple of abortions and now have kids, and then again I know someone who had one abortion and has not been able to get pregnant since.

Yes, committing abortion will increase your chances of infertility and sterility in the future. Abortion is known as a "blind procedure," meaning the doctor cannot see what he is doing as he inserts sharp instruments into your womb. Damage to your reproductive organs may result. In addition, the cervix (which is tightly closed to protect your baby) must be forceably dilated. This often causes tearing and permanent damage to the cervix, which will increase your chances of miscarriage in the future. Here's the research:

If you're stupid enough to kill the child you have now, you shouldn't be having any more kids later on anyway. What are you giong to tell your future children? "Oh, well you had another brother/sister, but I killed them because I didn't want them." ---yeah, that's going to go over well.

Look, the point is, abortion is murder. How can you say that baby isn't a living thing? It's growing isn't it? Please don't kill your child. Haven't you seen that video of the doctor sticking the needle thing into the top of the baby's head and pushing the poison stuff into the baby's brain? Then it shows the baby wiggling around trying to survive while it suffocates to death. I can't believe there are tons of people in this world who would do that to an innocent infant.

"Mommy, please don't kill me!"
