My friend answered an ad in the paper for a roommate. It was with another guy, a 37 year old professional guy who was in the supervisory field. He was to rent a room for 120 a week, the room was on the second floor of a 2 story townhouse. He basically had all upstairs and his own bath, and full use of the kitchen and anywhere else he liked, because the roomate was never home. The roommate was single with no kids. But anyway, my friend lost his job that he'd been on for 8 years. They basically went under overnight, and my friend explained this and the roomie was like no problem.Well, my friend was to stay there for 6 months, but he ended up staying a year. The roomie was okay with it, and told my friend to take time to get himself together, and don't worry about paying him. Pay whenever he got himself together. The roomie found a lady friend, 2 months later he moved in with her and put his place up for rent! No warning, he moved while my friend was out looking for work! No 30 day note

The roomie gave no 30 day notice or anything. The following weekend after he moved out, he showed up with a couple interested in renting the place! My friend was in the process of filing for unemployment, had no money saved and was trying to find somewhere to stay. This couple moved in the following weekend, and when they moved in, they made my friend's life miserable until he moved out, took what little bit he had, and moved into a cheap pay per week motel. I wanted him to stay with me, but I have 5 kids and don't have room for him, his parents don't live in the same state as us, so he had nowhere else to go! This seems wrong, but this is what happened to him, and I want to know does anyone else think he was illegally evicted? he could sue, but then the rommie would probably counter sue for the back rent owed. This guy was nice and we were shocked he'd do that to my friend. We found out that he had the place on e-bay and is plannig to sale it. The current tennants still live there

My friend had a lease that the roomie typed up and they both signed it. The lease was 6 months and then after my friend lost his job, the roomie extended the leasse, he suggested it. He said that he didn't want to throw anybody out!

Depending on the laws of your state, he "might" have been illegally evicted. He, if I read everything you wrote correctly, had a month-to-month lease with the roommate. In most states (I'm assuming you are in the U.S.) you must be served with a 10 day notice before eviction. Howver, it looks like your friend voluntarily moved out. He "could" have disputed it, but in the end, it would cost more to fight than he would gain.

Your friend was not illegaly evicted. He did not even have a lease. He was mooching off the guy for way too long anyway. Whatever!
