I am on the pill to regulate my periods. It has done wonders for my skin and my periods now come 4-5 days regularly. I have no cramps and the periods are light! I would say they are your best option. I have been on them for 3 years for this reason and I have gained 5 pounds b/c of them. 5 lbs isnt bad. Good Luck

I love the pill because you know exactly when you will get your period, exactly when it's going to be over. Take it every morning, without fail, and you will know your cycle within a few months. It also helps lessen cramps for some.
The bad side is it causes weight gain and facial hair over the upper lip. Expect that you will have to try a few before you settle on one. LoOveral is the best, least side effect way.
If you are having sex, ever would again, and you don't plan to wait until marriage, then you should be on the pill. You do not want to be tied to a baby for the rest of your life, and a kid is a good way to scare away your bf and his family. Most girls think it's a good way to keep a man, but most who have done this find the man gone.
Keep in mind that the pill will not keep you from getting a STD. I think I read that 1/3 of all people have herpes...so learn from statistics and be sure bf uses a condom. Every bf, every time. If you can't speak up and make him wear one, then should you be procreating? Because that is the ultimate reason for sex.
Lastly, be prepared for him to say he doesn't want to use a condom. Over the years men will say "I cant feel as much" or "They hurt" or "I'm clean, trust me" ...expect that too. They say that and you know it so don't bow down to the story they all tell. :) Facts of life are just that, facts. Listen to the stats.

There is nothing wrong with it. As far as weight gain, ar eyou prone to gain weight quickly (is your whole family big)? If not, then it is not a problem. With the regulation, it is wonderful to take away the guessing game-especially when you are active and they are irregular. When you go to the doctor you will have to get a pap-smear. Not the most comfortable thing in the world, but not too painful. You will be fine. Other than that, they will ask you if you have had sex and if you are having sex. You need to be honest. You will feel a little uncomfortable but they have seen and heard a lot more than what you are going to show them or say to them. You are just a client to them and they are not judging you. I don't recommend the shot thought. It messed up my whole senior year of basketball. So stick with the basics for now and maybe you can change to another type later. Good Luck.

Going on birth control can help you in several different ways. I wont go through all of them but yes it does regulate your period, and you shouldnt gain any weight because you run. He will probably just ask you why you are wanting to go on the pill for. There are several different types of birth control and he will try to determine the best one for you so just answer honestly. You definately need it if you are sexually active, for now AND later.

prolonged use of any birth control medicines is a HUGE cause of cancer.....so, ask yourself how long you plan to be on birth control
talk to your doctor about the risks
then make your decision....always make informed decisions...find out exactly how birth control works, decide if you want your body to be manipulated!
it is a MAJOR decision, don't let any one tell you otherwise

Go to your family doctor and discuss it with him/her. Explain what you just asked and really talk to him/her. Good communications is the key. So go, talk and get what you need from the person you need to speak with.
