My boyfriend and I were best friends before we started dating, and I used to rant about my parents- something I would have never done with a boyfriend- which caused him to resent them. Recently he's been disrespectful and rude toward them and I don't know what to do. He's a really really amazing guy, and he doesn't act like this to his own parents or anyone elses; but he can't seem to get over my disfunctional family. Granted, my parents are far from perfect, but I'm very family-oriented and want them in my life.

I can't see how keeping my boyfriend (who is planning to be my fiance) and keeping my family is going to work. Help!

Ever heard of the phrase, "blood is thicker than water" ..yeah, family IS FAMILY. You can't do anything about that. They will always be YOUR family. I think you should start telling him that even though your family is dysfunctional, you respect and love them because they mean a lot to you. If you mean a lot to him, he will respect your wishes. He doesn't have to like them but he does have to respect them. And finally, tell him that you don't want to come down with either choosing one or the other...

He's trying to alienate you from your family. No amazing guy would treat your family the way this guy is. You need to move on NOW!

have you tried to ask him to stop being rude to your parents?
how do you react when your bf do that to your parents?

sorry but i dont think that a person who is disrespectful to someone else's parents (no matter how evil they are) is "amazing"

our parents may be bad or evil sometimes but whatever happens they are still our parents. we - their children, have no rights to be disrepectful to them... how much more our bfs?

if he really really loves you he should realize that you're not happy seeing him being rude to your parents. and he should realize that you're not that mad to your parents anymore..

your choice... your parents or that amazing but disrespectful bf of yours.

get rid of him the only thing he is doing is trying to make you love him more than your own family

You answered you own question.

If he is so amazing then why does he treat your family so badly? MOVE ON...
