I WANT TO PUT A DOOR IN FRONT OF MY HOT WATER HEATER.TO HIDE IT. ARE THERE ANY CODES I SHOULD KNOW ABOUT BEFORE I DO THIS? IF SO WHERE DO I FIND THEM?

I can only speak for Jacksonville Florida. If it is electric and not propane or gas, there is not a problem closing it in. Remember your catch pan under the heater, that is code here now. The only other codes have to do with electrical connections. Thomas just did his about a year ago and checked at that time.

Make sure you're water heater is vented. {required everywhere} I would use a louver bifold as a door to hide it. Just a note: You really don't need a hot water heater,since the water is already hot. Sorry couldn't help it.

If gas you need to be sure their is a vent in the bottom of the door so the gas has enough oxygen (air) to burn properly. check with you local building code office.
