We may never know exactly what was said to provoke him but are you still shocked by Zidane's exit in the World Cup final?

Does this ugly incident tarnish Zidane's otherwise excellent career? Did you think the final outcome was fair? Would France have won if Zidane had remained in the game? Did Italy deserve to win?

Thank you for your answer!:)

I'm sorry to see you getting such obnoxious answers to a legitimate (if slightly dated) question, Moon. The complete lack of manners and basic civility on this website is one of its largest flaws, although there are a great many of those. But I digress.

I was and remain absolutely astonished to see Zidane behave the way he did in what was to be the final match of his storied career. I'd always assumed him to be a class act and a real leader on his French team. But instead of retiring on a high note, he went out in complete disgrace, letting down both his country and himself in the process. His actions in that final match of the World Cup very definitely tarnish his otherwise exemplary career, no matter what was said to him by the belligerent Italian player, Materazzi. Surely, Zidane could have waited until the conclusion of the match to take up the issue with that impudent swine and deal with him accordingly.

However, whether or not France would have won the Cup if Zidane had remained in the match is another matter entirely. I think it still would have been determined by penalty kicks, and the Italian goalkeeper was clearly superior to the French one. That said, I felt strongly that the team who beat Brazil in this tourney deserved to win it all -- and that was France, not Italia. My frustration with the result is only augmented by the fact that the Azzurri behaved atrociously throughout the 2006 World Cup with their fascist bully-boy tactics, endless diving and incessant whining. So no, I do not think Italy deserved to win the Cup, irrespective of what their diehard fans may believe.

But the bottom line is that the bad actors did indeed win and the world-beaters (i.e., the Brazil-beaters) lost, and that's all anyone is going to remember in years to come. As for Zidane, he ended up hurting his team instead of helping it when it needed him most. And now he's going to have to live with that....

Couple matters 1st. Mexico is extra corrupt particularly while their possess president purchased the votes to win the election 2d. Why mexico? I suppose it might be bigger in any nation that hasnt hosted it two times alredy third. Brazil deficient? I dont suppose so in any other case they wouldnt have gained the bid for 2014 4th. What makes you suppose mexico will win wc at house in the event that they cant even beat jamaica at house for the duration of a qualifier? And final. When did mexico win a wc (aside from adolescence companies) im lovely definite that might be on no account. No offense Only cuz you thumb me down doesnt imply im improper its all real

If you ask me, Zidane is a complete idiot. It's ashame to see a professional soccer player with such bad sportsmanship. Think of the example he is setting for younger players all over the world. There is no reason to ever headbutt a player!! France would not have won if Zidane stayed in the game. It made no difference. Italy deserved to win!!

You're a little late to the party. This topic was so 3 weeks ago.

The Zidane commotion came and went. His 15 minutes are over. Get a life, you Johnny-come-lately.
