A 17" LCD monitor is just that 17" from corner to corner. A 17" CRT monitor is 15" from corner to corner. The advantage is more viewable area with the LCD.

Personal experience here. Stick with the CRT. On the flat screen if you have a pixel go out on the monitor. It will be gone forever. CRT does not have that to worry about. Graphics also are better with the CRT. The only thing with the flat panel is that you gain space on your computer desk and in you wallet and it looks pretty cool.

The old CRT screens look bad compared to LCD. It the total difference between B & W TV capared to a color one. Spend the money and get a LCD screen.

If you plan on viewing it for long periods of time, you would want to get a flat screen. They are much better on the eyes.

The may have the exact same specs, but the flat screen is easier to view with less distortion.
