its so laughable how someone who considers a greatest winner as not the greatest player...all players go on the court not for glory or personal accomplishments but for one reason and one reason only...that is to win,, i dont care how u slice and dice it of you dont win your personal statistics will always be tainted...bill russell played in 12 nba finals in his 13 years in the league and he won 11 of them...no player has even come close to matching this feat and for all likelihood never will...i cant believe how all these mj. wilt, shaq. etc fans only think and vote with uneducated emotions and fail to see that the best player is the guy that makes his team a winner over and over again...

Right now Michael Jordan in 10 years we may be saying Lebron James or Dwayne Wade. Those two are going to be some of the best of all time Dwayne Wade already put up some Jordan-Esqe numbers in the finals and Lebron Almost beat a championship team all by himself, so those could be the best of all time right there. Wilt Chamberlain may have had a good 2 years in the NBA but you can't say 2 years makes a career. I would much rather take Kareem Abdul Jabbar the all time scoring leader who was fantastic his whole career, and he was the best center of all time. Shaq is good but Kareem was much more versatile than him. but Jordan was the most versatile player of all time. but the 2 new young guns will give fights like Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan did for the best player of all time.

Wade and Lebron r not close moron.

i want to say Bill Russell but i will say michael jordan. I mean some people can say that all those people sayin him don't know anything about basketball. But that's what signifies him being the best. The fact that everyone knows his name. He was a great offensive player and one of the best defenders ever. Wilt only one 1 championship while Jordan has 5.

For the best of all time how can you possibly go against wilt chamberlain. Not only the greatest scorer, rebounder, passing big man, strongest, athlete ( 7-1 300 pounds, and still holds high school track records in Philadelphia) and defender in NBA History. He dominated like absolutely no other. Only man in NBA history to post a triple double double: 28 points, 25 rebs, 21 assists! Who knows how many quadruple doubles he may have had, if blocks and steals were recorded. People who would say he wasnt even the best center of his era, are way off base. The league wide assumption that Russel was better was pure nonsense. Critics can site the 11 championships won by Russel as a deciding factor, but the 9 times they met in the conference finals, 7 went to game 7's.( not exactly sure on the figures, but not in the mood to look it up) Without Chamberlain, would his team have made it game 7? Exactly. He averaged 50.4 points, and 28 rebs in his second season for Christ sakes. His career averages in games played against Russel were 28.4 ppg and 28 rpg. While Russel's averages were 18 ppg and 21ppg. Wasnt Russel supposed to be the superior rebounder? WE ARE NOT looking for the most "decorated" player in NBA history. The msot decorated gives no indications of who was greater. All In all, Russel is the greatest WINNER, in NBA history, but the position of greatest PLAYER, belongs to Wilt.

Pure player: Jordan

Most dominate player: Wilt

Best with what he had physically: Bird

Overall: I like Bird. He could beat you 10 different ways and NONE of them were with his physical presence. Had he (or Magic) played in a time where they were not negating each other to some extent (by meeting over and over in the finals) I think the Celtics or Lakers would have had 6+ titles much as Jordan's Bulls did. Jordan didn't have a peer like Bird and Jordan did.
