Marijuana and hemp (the same basic plant without the THC) are both very beneficial for various reasons.
You can check out some in-depth info here:

The only reason there is such an issue over medicinal marijuana is that it cannot be patented.
It is a plant that has so many interactive elements that work in a synergistic way to provide relief (to glaucoma and cancer patients, just to name a couple) that the scientists have not been able to figure out how to synthesize it into a patentable form.... Synthetic THC alone does not provide the same effect as the whole plant. Thus, no big pharmaceutical corporations will get huge dollars for its production and sale. In fact, it is in their best interests to squash any pro-medical marijuana reforms through very generous lobbying with our lawmakers.
Since it is relatively easy to grow, it is also unlikely that you will see general legalization either. It would be too difficult to tax and control the way alcohol is, making the development of a multimillion dollar industry that could line the pockets of the few almost impossible. Patient benefits carry very little weight when it comes to law... Show how it can benefit big business or the lawmakers directly and you might have a chance.
Until then, we will have a nation of criminals and generations of young people growing up with a general lack of respect for our laws because of this sort of lack of logic in our lawmaking policies. I am not even a pot smoker and I can see the idiocy of this situation. I just don't understand why so many cannot.

Medical marijuana is good, which is why the US will never allow it, particularly with Bush as president. If people use the medical marijuana, then the drug companies will lose sales and won't be able to declare the huge dividends every year. So, instead of the relatively inexpensive marijuana with very few side effects, our government insists that you use very expensive synthetic drugs with horrible side effect, and then they can also sell you more drugs with more side effects to counter the side effects of the first drugs. My aunt is 87, takes 5 expensive prescriptions daily. Two of the drugs she may need, but the other 3 are to counter the side effects of the first two. Does this make sense?

It has nothing to do with medicine. It is simply a first step on the way to legalization. The rest is a made up excuse. A person would have to be pretty dumb not to see that. It is a dangerous drug anyway you shake it up. Yes, it can be all that bad. You left out all of the bad things. I have friends who used it who will attest to the dangers and are the most adamant about banning it.

This active substance has been condensed into a pill form.. if the reason for medical pot was a legitimate one, they would be more than satisfied with the results of the pill.. leaving an area of question as to the legitimacy of the complaints, of those being denied the smokes.

very good....in fact excellent.. in fact without it some of my friends would be very hyperactive, and i wouldnt be able to relax either, ive smoked it daily, for about 15 yrs now, i used to smoke cigarettes alot of them now i smoke less too. but from when i get up in the morning, to going to bed, when i do smoke its a small 1 skinner for me .... ive taken college courses, and passed all of them, and i dont lose my temper as easily or quickly, im much more chilled out, life doesnt take its toll as hard when im relaxed..im anorexic and it encoureges me to eat thanks to the munchies, i never slept well but, have slept better, thanks to the naps i take during the day, and my creative side is enhanced by it as it allows me to take my time and achieve things i set out to do. as one of my courses was Art & Design, ....so i agree im alive never overdosed unless you call sleep a bad thing ..thats the worst it'll do, so it definatly isnt all that bad..

Good. Some people out there are actually better off if allowed to use it. I just don't like when people use it recreationally and abuse it.

Who is it hurting for people who need pain relief or just palliatives to use a God-given plant to do for themselves what corporate-created drugs cannot do? Right! It's hurting drug-corporations! Now, ask me if I care...
