Depends on where you live, how many other claims there are from your area and most importantly, if you had FLOOD coverage or just general insurance. The insurance companies are trying to cheat people who were insured and lost their things to Hurricane Katrina and the litigation could be in the courts for years.

I assume you mean, "how long does it take for an insurance company to pay when there was flood damage on renter's insurance"?

Depends on the company, your contract, and the conditions surrounding the damage. Less reputable companies will do anything not to pay and will draw out the process as much as possible (asking for quotes, claiming they need to investigate, ask you to complete additional forms) and may take several weeks or more. If you company is a good company and the conditions surrounding you claim are clear cut, you should have it within a few days.
