Oh yes, I had wonderful parents. They made sure I had letters/ responses from santa. Sometime the letter would show up on Christmas Eve.

On the contrary, I've received letters to Santa Claus and have answered them on his behalf.

From the "Operation Santa Claus" website:

If you want to get involved, check with your own post office to see if there is a local version of Operation Santa Claus. Or you may visit or contact Operation Santa Claus in New York. Volunteer postal workers will send you as many children’s letters as you request. Write to Operation Santa Claus, James A. Farley Building, 421 Eighth Avenue, Room 3023, New York NY 10199-9998.To get "Dear Santa" letters from the U.S. post office, call the toll free number, 1-877-840-0459.

Not a personal reply but a reply none the less. I knew Santa Claus did not exist while I was writing the letter.

No because Santa Claus has never existed. The reason mankind created such a false character was to block out the true reason of CHRISTmas. Which is the birth of CHRIST Jesus. Who suffered and did on the cross for humanity. Because we've broken the law and commands of God, which is:
1Thou shall not have no other Gods before me
2Thou shall not make for yourself an idol (Santa Claus and etc.)
3Thou shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God
4Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy (Sunday is for Worship & Praise)
5Honor thy mother and father
6Thou shall not murder
7Thou shall not commit adultery
8Thou shall not steal
9Thou shall not lie
10Thou shall not covet (jelousy)

Jesus said that if have committed 1 of these sins that we have committed all. So we are guilty of all sin and are doomed for hell. But the blood of Christ can redeem us if we repent and put out trust in the Lord and Savior, so that you wouldn't have to got to hell. And Jesus will give you true peace, wisdom, knowledge, love, and purity here on earth. Will you make the most important decision of your life before it's too late? Jesus is waiting, he loves you and wants to fix every area in your life and every brokeness in your spirit. Give him a chance to give you eternal life throughout Heaven...

Yes, I did. Santa explained very gently why I couldn't have one of the gifts I had asked for. I kept the note and found it again years later--realized it was my mother's writing.
