I have been to Nigeria and I had a lovely time. I found that they are warm and friendly people, so why do people think otherwise?

I'm sure that Nigerians as a whole are a lovely people but Nigeria itself has gotten a bad reputation because of the Internet scams which come from that country and the inability of the authorities to control and prosecute the scammers.

Who says people think otherwise? I have lived in Africa for over 40 years (Zambia, Botswana and South Africa) and found that the ordinary Nigerians were the same as any other peoples - they have the same hopes and fears as anyone else. Unfortunately in South Africa a lot of the Nigerian immigrants are connected to the drug trade, are drug users and general criminals (mugging and burglary for money for drugs etc.), so coupled with the terrible civil war in Nigeria not so long ago when awful things were done to innocent civilians, perhaps this is why people might think otherwise. Unfortunately the sins of the few often rebound on the many,

Way back when I was going to college, I meet a number of people from Nigeria and many other countries. The people I meet from Nigeria were warm, friendly and intelligent. They came from a very different background then myself, but we got along very well.

Their either racist or have had the misfortune to meet someone from Nigeria who isnt nice (as you find in all countries).

Personally I have no problem with Nigerian people - my next door neighbour is originally from Nigeria & is one of the nicest people Ive ever met.

Horrible violent people. always into crime. Why do I say this? I had a bad experience with a family called Allowja They pulled me down the stairs by my hair backwards because my father was their landlord. They called me a witch because I was just married and had no children. apparently they have children before they get married to prove themselves fertile and if it doesnt result in marriage then the children are looked after by the grandparents. Sorry but I wouldnt want anything to do with the entire race. Bad experience. You cant tar everyone with the same brush? No...I was never racist until that experience. Once bitten never ever again. To each his own!!!

This isnt meant to sound harsh to you but...what does it matter if somebody is from nigeria or wherever? colour of skin shouldnt matter, at the end of the day we are all people and we shouldnt allow the media to stereotype our believes on foriegn people.......yeah okay you can easily dislike somebody for whatever reason but i believe that if somebody goes out of their way and is polit to you, you should do the same back no matter what ethnicity they are.

Because it's a very troubled country mired in tribal skirmishes and political instability. It doesn't make individual Nigerians bad, it's just a collective opinion of the country.
