I mean, I hear so many awful stories about robberies and murder that it's inimaginable for me to walk around without worry.

our life expectancy is usually around 2 years, so we don't worry, we are usually dead before we are even aware of the danger.

Whenever I got scared, I would pray to God to keep me safe.

There is much more to New York City than robberies and murders. For one, we have a great diversity of people, and many kinds of ethnic foods, music, clothing, and cultural events to choose from. Our public libraries are well-stocked with books, tapes, and CDs. There's an air of excitement and importance about this city, like what happens here, and what we do, counts. Although we complain about our public transportation system, it's here, and it's fairly efficient.

The rich and poor rub elbows here, at least sometimes. I can go "ritzing" in Tiffany's, which I did in the spring as research for a role in a community theater production, and then by something at the 99-cent discount store. The shopping here runs the gamut. The famous and ordinary rub elbows at times, too. I'd probably need all ten fingers and all ten toes and then some to name all the famous people I've met or seen in person. I've shaken hands with Bill Clinton, and have waited on Whoopi Goldberg as a video store clerk years ago.

I could go on and on, but there is much that I love about living in this city.

New Yorkers survive in my town like in any other town. My town is not New York.

Being a native New Yorker - City - I have never been mugged, seen a murder or a crime being committed. It is not as bad as it is made out to be.

Carefully. ;)

Honestly, it's just the same as any other city. Be careful, stay aware, try to avoid bad situations. NYC is a pretty big place, so while there's a lot of crime, it's not like everyone experiences it every day.

We have a sixth sense and know when trouble is coming.
