We see the runway shows features in fashion and News shows and all those dresses..collections for all seasons, I never se anyone in real life dressed in dresses like that. And I know a lot of rich proffasionals.
Is it for elite < 0.1% only? If it is not of concern to 99% of people, why do they show it on TV?

The runway shows are over dramatic for show....the basic dresses/slacks/shirts/etc. are made for the real woman...

the knock-off's are on the shelves at the stores usually within days.

Couture clothes are alas, for the rich and famous. They wear them once and send them to re-sale shops in New York....look around and you can find a dress or tux etc. that your favorite star wore and it could be yours for half the price.........Galliano anyone?

You are certainly right. Few people can afford those products or have the same size of clothing. In the main fashion capitals, the people wear similar products like the runways, these clothing make a trend. Also there are also many sizes of the clothing, because there are also old fat rich ladies that want to use them.
Also the runway clothing is sold at the end of the season with a huge discount. Haute Couture is a very expensive work that is unmanageable monetary speaking. For example, Marzotto Group supports Valentino.
Armani jeans supports Armani luxury.
There are about 6 huge holdings that own the best brands worldwide: IT holding, Vanity, LVHM, etc.

As someone in the fashion industry let me explain how this works. A fashion runway show is for a designer to display his/her new collection. These pieces are usually seen and bought by boutiques who carry their line or by upper class, rich or celebrity types who can afford to buy the piece. Usually the things you see the models wearing are not how they are meant to be worn on the street, but only the artistic way the designer wants the piece to be displayed for show. The celebrities that you see in People and Us weekly and admire for their outgoing fashion sense are wearing things they saw on the runway and matched with other things to make the look their own. Then months later the rest of us follow suit. Also, the looks you see on the runway are not what they call "ready-to-wear" which is what you end up seeing on the rack at Nordstroms. High fashion is not meant for everyone, which is why designers have there runway looks as well as the "dummy-down look" that most regular people can handle wearing to work or school. Besides that, don't knock a look till you try it.

I love fashion! I watch runway shows all the time on tv. I dress up a lot- not in designer wear cuz i'm in college and thats not in my budget but i always wear the look for less. I have my own style but I tweak it sometimes with the hottest new trends I see.
