The conflict has been going on a long time.
Lebanon is an Arab country, but has typically had about a 50/50 mix of Muslims and Maronite Christians. It has never been politically strong, and in the last few decades the Muslims have been more dominant than the Maronites. Its neighbors, particularly Syria, have taken advantage of that and its proximity to Israel.
The current donnybrook began when Hezbollah militants attacked and took two Israeli soldiers hostage. Israel rightly considers this an act of war and responded.
Hopefully somebody can get both sides to stop shooting, however I put most of the blame on Hezbollah, which is brokered by Iran.

Hezbollah kidnapped 2 members of the IDF, killed 3 others and made statements saying they wanted to exchange these prisoners for Lebanese and Palestinian Arabs being held in Israeli jails. Hezbollah was looking for trouble, but probably expected a prisoner exchange. Hezbollah demanded return of Shebaa Farms, a small piece of land now occupied by Israel.
Jimmy Carter offers these facts from history. Prior kidnappings had resulted in prisoner exchanges, vastly favoring the Arabs:
“1,150 Arabs, mostly Palestinians, for three Israeli soldiers in 1985; 123 Lebanese for the remains of two Israeli soldiers in 1996; and 433 Palestinians and others for an Israeli businessman and the bodies of three soldiers in 2004”
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/07/31/AR2006073100923.html
Hezbollah began firing rockets in response to Israel air attacks which followed the kidnapping and murder of the 3 soldiers on July 12. Several commentators have said that Hezbollah was surprised by the extent of the Israeli response, however, it had been preparing for conflict generally.
Almost every country, except the US and a few really stanch allies such as Great Britain, think Israel’s response has been way over the top, extremely disproportionate.
Personally, I think that some of Israel’s motivation is that Lebanon has a lot of nice sea coast, good farm land…room for Israel to grow. Some of Lebanon is part of the biblical land that some Israeli’s believe was given to them by God.

The question is not who attacked first. If we truely want to understand the conflict in Israel and the surrounding areas, we must look to past events.
After world war II the jewish population were a people without a homeland. It was decreed by tthe British in 1948 that the Jews would be put back into the "holy land" which was, at that time, Palistine. The British governemt put the Israelis there without any type of severance, compensation or pay to the Palestinian people, who i may add were the LEGAL owners of the land.
So today we see Palistinians who have been kicked out ILLEGALLY from land that has been a part of their families for generations and we see the ILLEGAL occupation of Palistine. The occupation is illegal according to international laws set forth by the UN.
These people, the palistinians have now come to point in their lives where they see no justice and no resolve. The Israeli army is guilty of the most volitile human rights abuse of the Palestinians. Palistinian men and boys are killed or captured and tortured, and women are being raped. What makes the desperation even more severe on the part of the Palistinians is the fact that the USA continues to back this tyrant, caaled Israel (A hypocracy of the part of a so called democratic US governemt and the reason why anti-Americanism is rampant in the region).
Most people say that the Israelis are entitled to that land because it was promised to them by God. Most of these people coincidentally live in North America (canada and the USA). To them I say this:
Can you imagine paying for a house, investing all you have to ensure that you have the land and house to provide for your family. Now imagine if one day a group of Native Americans came to your doors tep and said "this land was ours before you or your ancestors came here. It is land given to us by our God and we are now here to reclaim it." Can you imagine if they said "We will move into your house, take it over, leave you a small part of the house to live in and oh, by the way, we will not be giving you any money for this land, whatsoever!" Now imagine if this group of native Americans killed your family members, raped your wife and daughters and nothing was done in the form of punishment to them for their acts. How would you feel? How would you react? I doubt that anyone would could live under such conditions and this is the conditions that the Palistinians live in with the Israeli's.

the suitable invention on the subject remember of Iran became a decision of comments talked approximately as "1001nights". you look to stay with in that custom of telling fiction. Hezbollah began this conflict decrease than direct orders from Tehran. Hezbollah chief and command team hid interior the Iranian embassy at present as hostilities began and continues to be there. Israeli infantrymen choose orange juice, at an identical time as Hezbollah is mythical for the fields of cannabis of their outdoor, and is the reason your tendency to verify issues which at the instant are not there. Israel now holds the bodies of a number of hundred hizbalons, yet Hezbollah suggested in basic terms fifty 3 deaths, possibly something weren't seen human by Nasrallah. the hizbalonis made very solid use of Lebanese little ones as risk-free practices from Israeli assaults, inclusive of loading little ones on appropriate of vehicles carrying rockets, and then while a number of those little ones have been killed, the hizbalonis invited the click and ordered them to take photos of bodies. i ought to remark on each and every ingredient you wrote even though it sounds like i'm dealing with ****.

If you are referring to the most recent fracus. Some idiot in Hezbollah decided that kidnapping some Israeli soldiers and then trying to exchange them for prisoners would be a good idea. Then he got some more idiots to actually do it! They kidnapped two Israeli soldiers and killed several more in the process.
Israel said give them back. Hezbollah said up yours. And Israel proceeded to open a large can of whoopass.
If you want more detail I suggest you Google Palestine, Israel, and Lebanon. If you want background wikipedia on the same topics.
