I like Edgar Allen Poe's writing. It's like reading the Diary of a Madman at times. His writing gets very dark and disturbing. I couldn't say I dislike him. Did you choose the title of the paper? Could you change it to something like--What events in Edgar Allen Poe's Life were reflected in his writings? Give examples.

Hmm. I don't, actually. But if I had to write a paper about disliking Poe, I'd probably want to focus on the gruesome aspects of his stories. I bet his works were criticized in their day much the same way as Stephen King's stories are today.

I believe some people kinda dislike Poe because he only shows the negative sides of the world in his work. Even though humans were born to go through a lot of tragedies does not mean they dont at least once felt peace and joy. The world has both sides in everthing.

Perhaps people find Poe to be too dark or gothic. I for one think he is very interesting, not only his stories but his life. "The Raven" and "The Telltale Heart" are probably two of his most recognizable works, and two of my favorites.

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore --
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
"'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door --
Only this and nothing more."

Well...if I had to come up with something negative, it would be that he had some pretty messed up hair. That's about all I can think of. Anybody who writes stories about burying axes in people's brains is pretty awesome.

Oh, if you're writing a paper, spell his name right. It's "Allan," not "Allen."

Insanity! That's your best angle. Maybe work out a line of thought where you show how insanity is potentially contagious, and if you read too much Poe you would become insane.

Perhaps reading some Poe would give you some insight.

I think Poe is truely creepifying and a beautiful wordsmith. I adore his work.
