It is actually perverted. Let me explain . There are two current idealized images of "normal" women's body . The first of course is the comic book one: lots of over the top artificial , surgically created body parts. self loathing on display
the second may very well be worse. An adult women's body that lacks hips, breasts and pubic hair. Essentially the body of a pre-pubescent girl or boy.
Making pre-pubescence a sexual ideal is of course perverted.
Those who created this image are sadistic misogynists. They created an image that a normal woman couldn't possibly attain/ maintain. The result is that the woman finds herself riding on a frusration loop.
So why do women follow the leads of guys that hate them ?
Women should rise up en mass and rebel against this ideal. They should refuse to buy any products that support this madness.

It seems like the extra skinny craze is starting to fizz out, a lot of actresses and models I see now actually have curves. But, I'm not from LA so maybe it's still popular there.
I don't really know much about UK sizes, but I don't think most women should aim for anything smaller than a usa size 6 (anywhere from 6 to 12 can look great...it just depends on the person's body structure). It doesn't look very pretty if your ribs are showing.

This is a difficult topic because girls tend to admire the look and lifestyle of Hollywood stars so when they see them so thin they think that is the why they should look. To be honest I feel that way at times myself but have tried to take a more healthy approach by going to the gym and eating better. I still don't feel completely happy with my body though, it really is a sad thing that is going on and I doubt it will go away anytime soon. A star that is a healthier weight tends to be criticized for being over weight, kind of a catch 22 I guess.

well, you shouldn't feel bad if you aren't a size 0, if it's natural for you to be then thats fine but don't strive to be too thin. It's worse to be too thin than to be fat. Fat people have heart problems and stuff, but thin people can die of starvation, and if a fat person gets a disease and loses alot of weight, hey they won't die they'll be a normal weight, but if a really thin person gets the same disease, then they might die because they'll waste away to nothing. a normal person will get too thin, but they have better chances of suriving than a 20 year old who weighs like 70 pounds before the disease. Don't think of yourself as fat just because of the super thin people, some of that dosn't look good, like if you're alll bones.

I think it's sad that society is brainwashing women to believe that they have to look anorexic to be beautiful. It doesn't make me feel fat at all when I see women like this (whether they be stars on TV or average people walking down the street) because I know that I'm healthy, an average size (not fat, not thin) and I'm happy with and comfortable in my body. :)

I think that it's so sad. I have been very heave - 310 pounds - and now am a size US 8 or 10. I still beat myself up for not being a size 4, but I have to work on it. I have three kids to care for and I can't starve myself and have no energy. I am learning to love ME.

Some people are naturally that size. When I was 22, I wore size 0. Now my daughter wears that size, and she's 25. But she eats as much as she wants to and so did I.
So don't automatically assume that any size 0 people you see are intentionally starving themselves!

It's sad to see beautiful women like Keira Knightley, who played these empowered-female roles, go like that. Sometimes Hollywood awards shows look like an appeal for famine relief dressed in designer gowns and jewelry!
I read in my sociology textbooks that in societies where food is readily available and average and poor people get fat, thin becomes a status symbol (and the reverse if we were all starving.)

I think it's gross to be that skinny. They have no nutrition and they're not as healthy... hey if they want to look like sticks then let them. I think there is a lot of pressure to look skinny also, and everyone has to compete with eachother.
