Running the AC continuisly means that the unit is under sized, low on refrigerant (freon) or the thermostate is set to low.
If the unit is undersized, it could lessen the life of the unit. Instead of lasting 5 years it may only last 4. You can always buy a larger unit or close off the area that you are cooling.
If it i slow on refrigerant than you could have it charged. This too could cause the life to be shortened.
If it is the setting on the thermostat, (when the room is at a good temp) the turn it up until the compressor cycles off.
I think I would just run it until it stops and then go get me a new one.
See other posts one a/c problems I have answered.

Greets..
Well, the newer units have much longer cycles so they are supposed to run longer; short on/off cycles is actually bad for them, and costs more to run.. they pull a lot of current when they start.
Then there is the matter of the electric bill ..... You might set it at a higher temp and use a fan. Or, as suggested, it may be too small for what you are using it for.. Call your elec utility for great information on sizing and just what will work best and cheapest for you.
Take care

i'm interior the aircon enterprise and what maximum folk published is sweet. the air coming off the condenser is heat, it is the warmth being displaced via the boiling of the freon interior the evaporator, to place it in layman's words. The further warmth of the friction interior the fan motor and compressor might then upload extra latent warmth, so this is a downward spiral. The exaust going contained in the direction of the air return might pump it top out the vents for the correct air, it is not exaust yet return air that cycles top back contained in the direction of the device. Get some flex duct from a brilliant homestead progression keep sufficiently huge to in good shape over the back, some duct tape to seal it, and throw the duct out the window and tape all of it around. you heavily isn't in violation considering you do not have a window unit putting out the window and it might actual get your landlord off his ***.
