You look them straight in the eyes and I say "Have YOU been on the computer?"

Geez, with all these answers I'd figure one would be correct. Everyone seems to be guiding you to the history. Obviously they do not read your question. And the keystroke logger will not help you with past history.

It is true what Lauren said about using a special program. The files you are looking for are special system files called index.dat. The index.dat file is the history repository. Even if you delete the history file from Internet Explorer or remove the files manually, you will still have a log within the index.dat file. Generally these files reside in the individual users' space on the computer.

I've used a program called ID Suite, also known as Index.dat Suite, to check the files. It's also possible to delete the files upon a restart of the machine since those files are always in use and cannot be deleted while logged in.

I hope this answers your question better than the others!

Note: This answer does assume you are using Microsoft's Internet Explorer to surf the web. Other web browsers may use other files not discussed here and may not be detected by the Index.dat Suite.

The only way is to install keystroke recorder software such as ACTIVITY MONITOR (shareware). This will allow you to spy at any time on what someone has been doing on your computer. It is a great tool to monitor your children without appearing to be nosey. Obviously if they're deleting the HISTORY file, it's because they have something they want to hide from you!

Good luck!

Toodles.

one way to also do it is to click as if to type in a direct address in the address box but put www. then type in "A" and all the website areas visited starting with A will come up. Then just go right down the line from A-Z. This would look like:www.a
(list of sites visited starting with A)

there are lots of places you can look at

history, cookies, temporary internet files, temp, recently opened documents, the registry.

If you want to know what programs outside the web are being used, your temp folder will help and recently opened documents.

However to truly track what someone has done you'll need a program on the computer that will log what's going on.

By Osmosis.

Stand next to the computer and hope you can soak up the history like a sponge.

Temporary internet files will help you. But if the so called person had cleared them all, then sorry. But may be you can think of a special prgram like a "KeyStroke logger" :) it will record all the inputs from your keyboard. Put a search if you need one :)

Certain programs on computers have LOG files, and they record every single bit of activity within that certain program...

If you go through the log file "with a fine toothed comb" (in otherwords...look at in in EXTRAORDINARY DETAIL) you can trace a persons path through the pc

first of all to gimli, u should never attribute the title nazi to anyone except the nazis themselves. i was in poland and germany and i saw just the tip of the iceberg of the horrors that they did as well as their crimes, and it really is quite inappropriate and disrespectful to call anyone that, unless of course they were a nazi.

now to answer the question - one way is to look at the cookies. tis can be done (if ur using internet exporer as ur browser) by going to properties. the general tab, temporary internet folders, settings, view files. hope i helped!

You can also check the cookies folder not to mention scroll down the address bar
There are also software programs that count key strokes, so not only can you see where they went, but what they typed!

Check the "cookies" file.
Cookies are tiny files that websites download to your computer- basically harmless, but they tell which site they are from.
