A feminist is a woman who believes that she is fundamentally responsible for her own well-being, and that of her family. Thus, she may or may not work for a living, but she definitely will if her own, or her family's well-being requires it.
Because she believes that she is fundamentally responsible, she will also actively fight for her rights and the rights of others. She will actively oppose injustice, including injustice against herself.
There are many women who fit the definition of feminism but will deny that that is what they are. This is because they have been conditioned by media stereotypes, and especially by right-wing propagandists, to believe that there is something wrong with being a feminist.
A man who supports women who take this level of responsibility is also a feminist.
One does not have to belong to any particular organization to be a feminist.
There are many different varieties of and approaches to feminism.
There are many fundamental disagreements among feminists--for example, there are some who oppose pornography, and some who do not. There are sex workers and women who pose nude whose approach to their lives and work could legitimately be seen as feminist.
In addition, not all feminists take the same stand on abortion.

Generally speaking if you take a really good look at a persons beliefs about certain things and the way that they go about attaining those things, it would be able to give you a good idea about whether or not they might lean towards the feminist movement.
Feminist commonly campaign on issues such as reproductive rights, violence within a domestic partnership, maternity leave, equal pay, sexual harassment, street harassment, discrimination, and rape. Many feminists today argue that feminism is a grass-roots movement that seeks to cross boundaries based on social class, race, culture, and religion; is culturally specific and addresses issues relevant to the women of that society and debate the extent to which certain issues, such as rape, incest, and mothering, are universal.

I heard on the radio the other day that the National Organization for Women (one of the original feminist groups of modern times) had their 40th anniversary. Only about 300 people showed up. These folks claim to speak for the American woman. I don't believe it.
The Washington Times just had an article on feminism 3 days ago. It's a bit of a hit piece on feminism but is still a good read.

Hello,
A feminist is a person ( man or woman ) that stands up for women's rights. No matter in what field, for example getting women to be payed the same as men. Basically making women and men equally strong and independent.

A feminist is someone who believes in equal rights for all. This includes equal pay for equal work, no biases based on sex, race, ethnicity, etc., and fair and equal treatment. Eleanor Roosevelt was a feminist. You do not have to be a female to be a feminist.
