The Netherlands is pretty ok; I spent about a week and half there a couple of years ago. I love that the people there are so relaxed and that there aren't so many puritanical laws, but I still feel safer at home in the US of A.

Have YOU ever been to the Netherlands? The only good thing about the Netherlands (other than an AWESOME history, gorgeous scenery, beautiful architecture, and very sweet people) is their pot. They do have awesome pot. The country itself couldn't defend themselves from the French if they had to.
And it can be REALLY nerve-racking to walk around Amsterdam at night.

the answer is 'yes' and I was not overly impressed.
I do like your alternative of "stay and fix it" but what if YOUR fix is someone else's problem? Keep in mind we are a democracy and so the issues, problems, and stands we take as a nation fall on the shoulders of the citizens. If you voted for the losing candidate, could you have done more to drum up support for YOUR candidate? Has it occurred to you, you may be in the minority? And if so, why should the majority cave in on their beliefs and convictions to cater to yours. YOU have the responsibility not only to vote for your candidate, but to try to sell your candidate to others and make COMPELLING arguments to win others to your point of view. If you are not willing or able to do that, you are part of any problem or issue this nation may have.
I detest the behavior "slick Willy" Clinton demonstrated while in office. However, I did no volunteer work nor had no signs in my yard supporting his opposition. I bear my share of blame and my shame in his conduct. We simply need to be more active in our government to bring about change and we must present intelligent debate to win others over... not just "hate rhetoric".

If the Netherlands are so great, why did you not capitalize the name? I have never been to the Netherlands, I am a US citizen, and I don't really like my government or my leaders. Not all Americans are proud of the choices our leaders have made.

They're a better country because their taxes are through the roof. They're putting BILLIONS into building a wall system to keep a significant fraction of thier land from flooding with the ocean's tides :-)
