I'm a little sickened by some(but not all) of the so-called "pro-lifers" on this site.I have seen them bemoaning the legality of abortion, and yet some of them call for murdering doctors who perform it and people who want to keep it legal.

This is what I'm talking about:
"Liberals are declaring war on babies. It's high time we bomb them too"-Mr_Scorpio_Rules,July 31,2006.
"Liberals do discard babies like garbage"-Irishhapist.

What a mess they are.

My reasoning is this:
1-To reduce abortions, start by keeping it in sterile, safe clinics.
2-This will make women more receptive to alternatives to abortion in the first place.
3-Regular normal Americans of all political stripes are not hung up on abortion. Most people avoid any lengthy discussion on it.
4-If some conservtaives went so deeply opposed to premartial sex in the first place before the sexual revolution, maybe the left's "reaction" with promiscuity, abortion, and pornography wouldn't be so flamboyant.Tit for tat,as history goes.

Abortion has existed as long as pregnancy has. If women can't get one legally they will go somewhere illegally where the conditions aren't safe, they aren't sterile as they have done in the past.

If abortion is banned you're simply putting the lives of women at risk. never mind that these women could well already have children at home or could go on to have more children later in life.

All these anti choice people are doing are forcing their religious beliefs onto everyone else.

of course it won't go away, but then, by saying it should stay legal, we also would be advocating the murder of babies. Do you think we shouldn't fight what is wrong just because we can't made it disappear. People will do terrible things no matter what anyone tells them because they can. But that doesn't mean we have to hang our heads and give up.
People are not always tactful when they say what they believe, that doesn't make them wrong, it just makes them a little stupid because an attitude like that will never get the point across.
as for your reasoning... i have to say that i disagree. There are many people who oppose abortion and will get into lengthily discussions about it. I am revolted by the idea and have actually lobbied before in order to try and stop this terrible thing that is being done to our children. And if the 'left' had only listened to our warnings that there are consequences... especially to promiscuity, then we wouldn't be dealing with these issues now. it is not tit for tat, it is the choice to walk away from morality.
Telling someone it is okay to kill her baby will never reduce the amount of abortions. However, telling someone that a fetus is a real live little human and not just a blob of tissue, will (and does) make woman think twice about the life they are ending.

No it most definitely won't make it go away! All that will happen is that it will be driven underground and women will seek a "back street abortion" thus endangering her life. These are some other reasons:
Government gets to control a woman's body.
"Back alley" abortions would increase if it were made illegal, leading to increased risk of young women dying or becoming sterile. Having said all that,Abortion should not be used as a means of contraception.
It's arguably better for society to have babies aborted than have them be brought up poor and neglected, where not only will the child suffer but society when that child develops a higher attraction to crime, welfare, etc.
One brief mistake can take away a woman's childhood and trap her for life.
Giving up a child for adoption can be just as emotionally damaging as having an abortion.
Abortion is not murder because it is performed before a fetus has developed into a human person. On top of that,I firmly believe that the decision to have an abortion is strictly between the two people concerned, NO-ONE else,it has NOTHING whatsoever to do with others!

No. It will just go back to being performed illegally.

You'd think people would pay some attention to history. Every attempt to make something illegal in the US has failed to stop it. Drugs, alcohol (prohibition), racism, and so on.

About the only success was slavery, and that required a civil war.

Besides, the anti-abortion debate and the pro-choice debate have nothing to do with one another. The pro-choice position isn't about whether abortion is good or not. It's about who gets to make the choice: the individual or the government.

But, we're in the process of moving towards a national government that is unaccountable to the people, unaccountable to the courts, and where personal liberties and constitutional rights are something that our parents will remember as the good old days. So, a police state where people have no control over their bodies seems right in line with the current political agenda.

Jim, There used to be a place called 'dad's foundation', and they had this sign out front of theri bulding that read "Abortion has two victims. One wounded, one dead." SOmebody spray painted over it "illegal abortion has two victims. Two dead" Truer words were never spoken. Unfortunately, most youngsters don't know the days of back alley abortions, so they only know it as being safe and legal. They feel comfortable, since it is safe and legal, to make the abortion debate about morals. It used to just be a matter of life and death. It was easy then to see the necessity of making abortion legal, as it was when the constitution was written.
Something else people fail to realize is that abortion isn't a right, it is a POWER that women have. And women will always use their power, no matter what you want to classify it as. An dit can be a man's choice what he wants, but he will never have the POWER, because it isn't his body. No matter how unfair that is. Take it up with god.

How about this:
1) Make the day after pill available over the counter. This is not an abortion pill, it just prevents conception after the fact. This act alone would probably reduce abortion by 50%.

2) Teach kids, in school, about sex, safer sex and the benefits of abstainance. Teach them how to use condoms and about STDs.

3) Keep abortion legal. The government has no place in a woman's uterus.

No matter what is said you will not change their minds about this, as they are irrational! Hopefully if the FDA approves the morning after pill as an over the counter drug this problem will eliminate itself. I think that if they want abortion repealed than they need to do a few things first.

1. adopt all of the children in this country who are adoptable

2. Stop over seas adoptions until the Conservatives have adopted all the American children who need homes.

3. Agree to monitoring while they raise these children to make sure they are properly educated, feed and reared.

And once they have accomplished all of this then we can repeal abortion because ALL of the adoptable children will go into really good Conservative Christian homes. Then they can talk to me about abortion. Let them put their money where their mouths are!!!
Don't loose sight of the fact that these are the same people who also don't believe in evolution!!!

Illegalizing abortion won't make it go away. If abortion is illegalized, people would be doing home abortions. They would try to abort the baby in any way which is more dangerous then actually going to a clinic because the methods would be unsanity and not only a threat to the baby but to the mother as well.

to reduce abortions...
1. make them harder to attain. it's easy to get an abortion at a clinic. the parents of the girl getting the abortion doesnt even have to be notified.
2. stop the encouragement of casual sex in the media
3. teach values to children

i do not imagine illegalize is a be conscious. Do you mean to make it unlawful again? There aren't any reliable motives. i'm no longer professional abortion yet i imagine creating women human beings having them in decrease back allies and with cord hangers may be against the law. many women folk human beings died or only about died from that crap many years in the past. only questioning that making abortion unlawful will give up abortion is like sticking your head contained in the sand to brush aside a hornets nest. you're nonetheless going to get stung.

A lot girls that have abortions are still in middle school or high school. Maybe, if somebody taught them how to properly use contraception....condoms or birthcontrol or whatever it may be, they wouldn't be in that situation to begin with. I've seen it happen to too many really sweet girls and it's sad. Mean while, it would have been more sad if they had to complete their senior year with a baby on the way, and make plans that don't include her dreams.
