Toothpaste :) White toothpaste not gel. Put on the zits at night, usually gone in no time!
If you don't want to try that, but something with these ingredients

Benzoyl Peroxide: Benzoyl peroxide is an over-the-counter acne treatment that kills the bacteria that causes acne. The treatment is highly effective in treating mild cases of acne like blackheads and whiteheads. However, it may be 2-3 weeks before you see improvement from acne treatment with Benzoyl peroxide. An example of an effective acne treatment based on benzoyl peroxide is Clearasil skin cleanser.

Salicylic Acid: Salicylic acid is a mild acid that encourages the sloughing of dead skin cells. Buy encouraging the peeling of the top layer of skin and the opening of plugged follicles. It works best to treat mild acne, oily skin, textural changes and hyperpigmention of the skin. Salicylic acid is thought to be much milder than Benzoyl Peroxide.

Long term care: Proactive!

Not over counter meds... but I used to get really bad acne and someone gave me a tip to start mixing epsom salts with my facial cleanser. My zits are pretty much gone now :) It's been a life saver!

Don't worry about measuring it or anything just take a mild cleanser (I use Aveeno or Cetaphil which you can get at any drug store) and either put the epsom salts in the cleanser... or wash your face and while it's wet take some of the salts and wet it down a little then rub it right on your face.

It's great for your skin, it doesn't dry mine out and isn't too harsh ;)

If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.
For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.

Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.
Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:

i tried Proactive and saw NO results after using it for almost a year. finally i also asked a question on here the same as yours and someone told me to try Clearasil Ultra Vanishing Acne Treatment Cream. OMG it works like a dream! just using it for a few days i saw incredible improvements and i had pretty bad acne at the time. you can get it in any drug store or like Wal-Mart, or Meijer, basically any store that has a face wash section. a daily face wash regime is important also. to wash my face daily i use St. Ives Apricot Scrub for Blemishes and then follow up with the Clearasil 2-3 times a day. I've had incredible results with this stuff and if you only have four zits then you'll be just as satisfied as i am. no one should have to live with acne.

Spot treating acne is fine, but using a daily regime to take care and preserve your face is most important. I'm 31 years old and dealt with acne my whole life. Tried everything from dermatologists to vodoo (kidding). NOTHING WORKS LIKE PROACTIVE. Do the whole 3 step process, use the masks and lotions when needed. I even use the make up and shampoo because I get acne on my back from my hair being so oily. I am FINALLY acne-free!

Whatever you do make sure you dont overtreat your skin. If you use a topical treatment like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide always use a good moisturizer, or even better use a moisturizer that has one of these products already in it. Aveeno makes a good moisturizer like this. When you overtreat your skin it becomes even more inflamed and broken out.
