I think too many Liberals are naiive do-gooders with no real sense of what they're actually "fighting" for. NOT all Liberals are this way. Many people who call themselves Liberal are also privileged grown up rich kids with trust accounts who do not move far beyond their sense of priviledge. When these sorts of people fight for gay rights, minority rights, women's rights, or even religious tollerance, they give the impression that they're only doing this becuase it's politically correct to do so. Anyone gay or Black who has dealt with "Liberals" especially White ones may tell you that they cannot be trusted. And thus, the problem, as I see is is twofold. There are people who call themselves liberal, but they're only being fashionable. Secondly, REAL liberals are often too busy fighting for fairness to take time out and weed the pretenders from within their ranks, and the pretenders are taking full advantage of this: not for reasons of malice, but because they're trying to impress each other.
I believe that there SHOULD be safeguards in place within society to ensure that tax paying Americans are not victimized by America at large, but I also think that knee-jerk liberals are nothing more than a few decadent people associating themselves with the downtrodden group of the moment becasue it's the current fasion, especially since MANY of the so-called Liberals fighting for women's rights or gay rights are sexist; many of the so-called Liberalists fighting for the separation of church and state are intollerant of religion (and they seem to be forgetting that freedom of religion that is ALSO written into our Constitution.) And I think that it is THESE people who are making the true Liberals seem so incredibly loud, obnoxious, and presumptuous. From the point of view of a gay AND black guy, I can definitely say that many of the so called Liberals who are "down with 'my' cause" are also the most racist, sexist, embarrassments to humanity I've ever had the displeasure of meeting...and conversely, those they refer to as "Republican fascists" are usually far more open minded and interested in making things better in a more realistic way than simply imposing their "fashionable" sense of political correctness on others. As for the real liberals who feel that it is our responsibility to live up to the promises stated in our Constitution and Declaration of Independence (and any other hallowed document) well...I have no quarrel with them.

I think most Americans are decadent pragmatists. I do think that liberals go too far to the point where common sense no longer applies and this makes them appear godless. Darwinism is a thoery with huge holes in it, but it must be true, because we can't teach intelligent design in a secular society. The Ten Commandments cannot be shown or the world will come crashing down or worse some hysteric might be offended. These are not HUGE problems with our society. Let them do it.
On the opposite side: it's much like Gay Marriage. Who cares???????? Let them do it.
Edit: Forcing Christians to hide their traditions is not ensuring liberty. Showing you're a Christian in no way forces others to do the same. Additionally, liberals are not any better educated than conservatives. This is a common claim that always cracks me up. I'm not religious at all, but I don't care if other people are. If you were really educated you'd be able to see that the theory of evolution is less than sound.

You guys have lost the plot with this two party business.
You can be liberal and religious. In fact, if you look at the hatred from many conservatives, I would question whether they are true believers at all.
It could be that liberal minded people are generally better educated and critical thinkers, rather than emotive and non-intellectual as is evidenced by many of your country's politicians and broadcasters.
I am actually serious in this statement. I am not an American, but from what Ive seen, your conservative politicians don't seem too bright. And their leader....
Oh heres a link, check out what your wonderful democratically elected government is doing for its people...

Neither.
They just don't believe in using the government to force their personal beliefs on others.
In the Preamble to the Constitution, there are five goals (values) of the US government: "establish Justice, to ensure domestic Tranquility, to provide for the common Defense, to promote the general Welfare, and secure the blessings of Liberty"
Conservatives think the most important are "to ensure domestic Tranquility" (meaning to promote conformity with 'traditional' ways) and to "provide for the Common Defense". They want group rights (conformity with 'traditional' values) and a large government to ensure domestic tranquility (by enforcing those conservative majority beliefs).
Liberals think it's more important to "promote the general Welfare, and ensure the blessings of Liberty". They believe the purpose of the government is to support people, and allow people to make choices for themselves.
Why can't people understand that freedom of choice is not a minority value, even if the majority happens to disagree with the minority's choice?

When you say "Godless" I assume you mean someone who does not believe in an invisble man who started everything and runs everything? Yes, some (including myself) fall into that category. Others I know are prgamatic as you say, some are very God-believing, some are in between. I think they fall into all categories, no?

I think the point should be...does it matter if they're godless or not....
If somebody wants to be "godless" they can be...says so right in the first amendment.
Don't pray in my school and I won't think in your church.
