I notice that someone here included one of his columns in their answer, so it made me think of this question.

Personally, I find him the most hit-and-miss of columnists....he'll write something great, followed by something that doesn't even make sense. And while he writes with passion, I think he often disregards research.

He takes a lot of heat because he's not afraid to bring race into his discussion at any time. I'm not sure it's always warranted, but that's his right. It makes me want to yell at him sometimes, but what can you do?

Other opinions?

You hit it on the button about him being hit-or-miss. I personally like him just because he is not afraid to say what he thinks. Thats why i like Stephen A. as well. He reminds me of someone that they just picked off the streets of NY. I honestly believe that the only reason you see his column and his face is because he is so controversial in what he says. Thats how columnists get recognition and TV face time.

I like him just because he livens up the sports world. But there are times, yes, that he says some odd things that do not make sense. You either hate him, love him, or just dont know who he is.

I put him in the same category of Stephen A. Jackson, as you said hit and miss. Just not as self-centered as Jackson.

For someone named "scoop", he certainly gets his news late (and his opinions are usually re-hashed and stolen from somewhere else).
