Is it dangerous to leave the switch on?

My mum always nagged at me for leaving the switch on. I just want to know if it's dangerous or not. Is any electricity being consumed even though the appliances are not being used?

What type of switch and what equipment is it connected? These are the factors tt will determine if it is safe or dangerous

Switches are DEFINITELY safer if switched off.

But I don't see an issue if you leave them on.
