I think that architecture should go with the materials and purposes of the times. I mean, I know it's a Fountainhead idea, but I don't think a Roman Bath has much place in a modern skyscraper, say. It must be consistent, it must make sense. I have seen lovely things done with glass and concrete (and I have seen some very ugly ones too) which have nothing to do with classical-looking shapes or details. Past architecture, as all past genius, is not to be imitated senselessly; things have to be developed, or we would stagnate. For modern architecture, I prefer things that make sense today.
The past masterpieces are to be admired, and lucky them who could live in such a place, but... I don't want to live in a modern replica of a great building. Even if the replica is in details and ornaments only.

I love the older architecture like Greek Revival. I do not like modern lines. I prefer ginger bread on house ,the Victorian look is very interesting.. I like all the curling ques and fancy stuff. Straight lines are boring. I think, it takes much more imagination to do fancy designs than straight lines. For example, I think Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home and design is exciting, classic, detailed, bold, inside it is warm.

I am originally from New Orleans, so I have always been partial to older architecture. Because of the ornate nature, it is the most surprising. You can look at a building 100 x's and find something new. It is beautiful. Then consider the lack of today's tools (computers, etc) and it is amazing.

um there is alot of good modern architecture around especially in the centre of London, I love The Gherkin as it changes colour in certain light, tried to be environmentally friendly and stands out on the horizon.
Surprising would for me be the extension at The British Museum which I convinced myself I would hate but infact love it.
Warm the chambers at Lincolns Inn Fields also built to with stand change and time long may they continue.
Old Architecture is my favourite but enjoy modern.

I love Hunterwasse. His buildings are so unique and exciting. Who cares if they're not really practical?
I also like the simplicity of Frank LLoyd Wright and the beauty of Charles Rennie MacIntosh
