A pop up blocker is to cure the symptom... you also need a spyware/adware program to remove the malware you have.

This is not always a result of a porn site... some of the games sites also have advertisers who install it on the computer. Best bet is to never click on a banner ad unless it is a site you know (Yahoo, etc) who actually checks the companies that place ads on it and doesn't just sell the space.

get rid of the malware, install an antivirus and an anti-spyware/adware program, and use a pop up blocker to stoop the "legitimate" pop ups.

Good luck

Getting a spyware/adware/popup blocker program will stop this. I know there are some free ones out there you can download. When I needed one, I did a google search and found Spysweeper and was able to download a free trial of the program. I don't think you can download a free trial anymore, but it isn't that expensive, around $30, and even having to pay for it is worth the money since it stops all the pop-ups and other adware threats. Check out the link below.

Getting and keeping all that 'junk' off your PC ensures your security, and also keeps your PC running smoother. Mine had gotten so infected, that my browser would just sit there and not even take me to any websites anymore.

If you just installed a program like Limewire, uninstall it.

I use all of the following Free software with Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer with MSN toolbar and the pop-up blocker turned on and have never had a single problem with my computer sense Microsoft came out with SP2. (knock on wood.) (And be sure to keep Windows and the following software Updated)

The best Anti-virus is: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. (www.grisoft.com)

The Best Spyware defense is: SpyBot Search and Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html)<--English version

AND: AdAware SE (www.lavasoft.com)
AND Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.info/kb/)
The best Firewall besides the one that comes with Windows is: Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/co... or just (www.zonelabs.com) and select the FREE version.

These are all FREE and are all that are required. There is no reason to pay for this kind of software, except to give a donation to the writers if you can.
ALL the above programs are recommended and should be run on a regular basis. With some the free versions they must be run manually.

The best way to avoid getting any Malware (virus, Trojan's, spyware, etc) is to practice safe computing. Microsoft and many others have countless articles on the subject of safe computing. (something I think should be taught in schools)

(To Space_Man_Stitch: Why did you rag on Limewire? Limewire doesn't have any viruses, it only downloads viruses that the idiot using it gets. Smart people don't get viruses from Limewire.)

My man, forget the popup blockers, you probably have one already. What you have is a Trojan. This is a form of virus that basically opens a backdoor to your computer. This allowed some wonderful marketing company to send you popups whenever they want.

You need an anti-virus program. AVG, like Stitch said, is very good. So is Avast. And so is anti-Vir. Of the three, Avast seems to work the best for me. Get one and use it.

Download Lavasoft AdAware. This kills most of the ad sites which leave Popups.
Install a popup blocker. Google or Yahoo toolbar is good enough.
Install Spybot Search and Destroy. This kills any spyware that is left on your PC.
All the above are free.

It happened to me before where the computer would seem like going frozen on me and after awhile it had tons of windows popped right in front of the screen. I just reformat the hard drive and reinstalled Windows.

Go to your "My computer" (assuming you have a PC).

Right click your main hard disk drive and go to PROPERTIES.

Complete a DISK CLEANUP.

Under the same option, complete a DISK DEFRAGMENTATION.

Get rid of your Internet Explorer by going to www.mozilla.com and download mozilla firefox. Use that instead of your IE and you shouldn't get popups or any kind of crap like that anymore.

Make sure you cleanup your disk and defragment once a month, but no more and no less than that.

Get rid of any programs you no longer need or want by uninstalling them. For more help you may contact me any time.

hi, i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. which is the most powerful tool in blocking annoying popup ads.

besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.

firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

download firefox for free:

Well, first of all stop giving you email to every website possible.

then if that does not help just get a sepparate email address where you only receive family and friends email, the other just to give out to websites when ever you have to sign up for anything.

make sure you get a very good pop up blocker i suggest yahoo's. it's good at getting the spyware too. also i'd get kapersky that way you have two. keep cjecking to make sure your temporary internet files and cookies are deleted. i'd do it at least twice a week because they sit in your system. i'd also get a firewall if you can or don't already have one.
