This is actually some additional info from my previous question a few weeks ago regarding my York central AC in the house we just bought. I went up into the attic and flipped the two switches on the side of the unit there. Sorry, I do not know what it is called, the furnace I believe. Now the light goes on on the thermostat when I move the switch to EM Heat so I know there is power to it. When I move the switch to cool and the fan to on, there is a clicking noise in the unit outside and in the box on the wall of the house. There are two boxes, one with a bunch of wires and another which has a pull-out switch you pull out and turn over to off or on. It is set to on. The box of wires also makes a low humming noise when the AC is switched on. The fan is still not turning on. Could there be a problem with the motor? I know nothing about AC so I am sorry I do not know the part names.

Just an additional note. WHen the prior owner moved out, they winterized the house and shut everything off. I was wondering if maybe there was a switch somewhere I was missing before I call a repairman.

It sounds like your contactor is either bad or stuck. This is the mechanism where the low voltage from the thermostat is converted to high voltage power for the compressor and fan motor. A qualified service tech should have you up and running in no time.

Yeah my firend just had the exact same problem with their ac unit. I think it was some type of relay in the outside unti that had to be replaced.
