I had pregnancy induced carpal tunnel my last pregnancy and with this one also. It went away about 2 weeks after I had my daughter. Mine all started around 4 months pregnant and just got worse. Right now its not too bad yet. I couldn't hold a pen, silverware, open a watter bottle, pretty much anything. It was crampy at night and then it started getting worse by hurting in the morning when I would wake up, to hurting all day and all night. I had a Nurse practitioner tell me to try Vitamin B12 once a day, and my Doctor this time has sent me to physical therapy for arm braces. I am sorry if you do have this because it is very painful. It typically happens to women after there first pregnancy. Good luck!

Carpal tunnel is easy to figure out, as it only affects three and a half fingers! That is, the thumb, pointer, middle finger and the inside half of the ring finger. If the pinky and the outside half of the ring finger are not affected, it is carpal tunnel syndrome, which is quite common during pregnancy, due to swelling.
You can get yourself a wrist brace to wear during sleep to help the problem. Talk to your doc, of course, but that's how to tell what it is, and what my doc recommended for the problem. After the baby is born, it'll probably go away.

When I was pregnant I had the same thing but it lasted throughout the day too. When I asked the doctor he told me that it was carpal tunnel and that it is very common for it to show up during pregnancy. Good thing is that it goes away soon after having the baby!!

Make sure you're not lying on your back at night. Doing so will cause the baby to be in a position that is right over your nerves, and can actually be very dangerous if it's done for too long. Prop some pillows behind your back to prevent you from rolling over. Good luck!

Ha, just kidding. I went through this crap too. I woke up with pain in my arms, back, hips and hands. The pain went away after being up for about 5 hours. The Dr. said it was just water retention and not to worry. But check with your Dr. since all pg's are different.

The baby might be on a nerve sending the pains to your hand. Have you considered going to a chiroprator? They can really help.

You might of just lifted something wrong I don't think it has anything to do with being pregnant. Maybe put some ice on it and see what happens.

Talk with your doctor. It maybe also that your hands are swelling. Pregnant women swell in their feet and hands.
