Listen. Your tongue will be swollen for a few days. Your body's freaking out because there's this new, random thing stuck in your body and it doesn't "belong" there naturally. However, it'll go down in swelling, but eat very liquid or mushy foods, and clean your tongue stud (don't remove it, just drip onto it and into the hole) daily with an antimicrobial germ killer - NOT antibacterial. Antibacterial killers contain natural antiseptics that really sting AND they will heal and fuse the wound to the piercing; there's a particular chemical in it that's notorious for it. Make sure you find "antimicrobial" rather than antibacterial products.
Also, be aware that your tongue will bleed on and off for a few days a swell. Everybody is a little different in sensitivity. Some people heal really quickly, others take a while. Your body will heal at its own pace. However, if after a week your tongue is incredibly sore, discolored in any way, and it bleeds heavily - like, straight through some tissue or a cotton ball if you press it down on it - then something's wrong. Go back to the "professional" and get advice.
Also, call the piercing studio and ask to speak with the person, if you recall the name, or just say you had your tongue done and have questions. They should welcome you as you could be a repeat customer if you are served well.
Your "professional" should have told you everything. I question how professional he is, or whether he was just bored with his job. When I had my eyebrow done I was instructed thoroughly with caretaking and I was given a follow up for free to make sure I was okay! I discourage using this professional again.
Ps. I pierced my own nose, and have done my ears myself, and I am going to have my nipples and/or my lip done after I have my baby - but THOSE piercings I will do professionaly.

Okay...first of all, I have to say I think you guys that say use listerine are slightly on the nutty side. I just got my tongue pierced about a week ago in Idaho. My aftercare instructions were to refrain from drinking, smoking, eating spicy or hot foods, and hard to chew foods. To rinse my mouth out with ALCOHOL FREE mouth wash...not listerine...why would you want to increase your pain??? to suck on ice chips and drink lots of ice water.
I had very very little blood...it only bled for about 5 minutes. It was swollen for about 4 days, and sore for the first 2 or so. There is a "crater" for lack of a better term that formed when my tongue swelled, but I'm told it's nothing to worry about and as the healing continues, it will fill back out.
My advice to you, is go back to your piercer and have him/her look at your tongue, and ask them for the after care sheet. If I'm not mistaken, it is required by law for them to give out proper aftercare instructions. If they don't carry any such thing, I'd report them and then check out a more reputable studio.
Anyone in the Boise Idaho area, Check out Broadway Tattoo and Body Piercing...ask for Wit :) He does great Tattoo work too :)

Glyoxide put on the top and bottom of the piercing at least twice a day. Gargle a good mouthwash like Listerine every time you eat or drink. And if the swelling down go down in two more days i would go to a doc you might have a infection. The bleeding might be caused from you tearing the hole to your piercing I did that with mine. It will eventually stop. you'll be okay.

you might have knocked it unknowingly and ripped your scar tissue trying to form in your tongue give it a few days and keep rinsing it if it starts to show any other symptoms of infections then go get it checked out

nah i'd go back to who did it and tell them about this.
they're suppose to tell you about caring for it and if it's still goofy days later that you're to come back and get it checked out.
i'd go back, what can it hurt?
