I would suggest that those people who answered before me by stating you cannot are correct. Does anybody truly know who the heck they are chatting with on the net? I think not. The internet although a very interesting tool to use at times, can also be a source of much danger and peril to people. Not only are people given misinformation regarding people and important material but they can be conned out of money and threatened also. The internet has become the number 1 source used to threaten and bully others. This is a sad statement on mankind.

I think that is hard to answer. I think that just like on the street there are people you can trust and people you can't. So since anyone can get on the internet just like anyone can walk down the street you should be cautious. Some people (myself included) have genuine intentions and others don't. It's up to you decide when you chat with people.

Never trust anyone on the internet completely. Until you meet them face to face (and how much do you trust people the first time you've met face to face?), you never know for sure who is on the other side of the keyboard.
Could be a predator, could be someone completely misrepresenting themselves to get you to divulge personal information about yourself, could be a criminal or a pervert.
It is WAY easier to hide behind a clever ID name and cute avatar than to be honest.

It really depends. There are a lot of people online that are just here to have fun and meet people and who are themselves. But there are also a lot of people who enjoy being someone completely different online than they are in real life. And you also have to be careful of people who are online with bad intentions. If you are just talking to people, and are careful not to reveal and personal details of where you live, etc, then you should be ok. Just remember, that you can't trust everyone and some people are really good liars.

Trust yourself, trust your instincts, trust your heart... Never "fully" trust anyone you don't really know or anything that is "too good to be true". But you do need to trsut in mankind a little or you will spend your life in fear. With a little time and experience you get much better at who you can trust and when.
Peace

not at all but if you just have a normal chat and be a bit friendly then there is no harm at all! having a chat once in a while with somebody you dont even know can be healthy to pour all of your problems out! but just make sure that you do not go to far such as meeting up with them or exchanging addresses or telephone numbers! If you have msn add this robot and talk to it, you can talk about anything and everthing:smarterchild@hotmail.com

No and yes, meaning there is a limit to how much trust you put in people especially on the net. Never give your total details to anyone (even me), no matter how nice, caring and understanding they seem.
Otherwise have fun chatting to whoever you please.
