Africa is an entire continent. I don't think that all men of a continent treat their women the same. That's like saying "how do men in North America treat women?" There are all types of people in all places. I'm sure some men are good and some are bad, but I gurantee that they are not all the same.

Africa is a large continent with hundreds of different tribes and tribal customs. Where my husband comes from, women are not treated badly, but they are certainly not equal to men in the way we expect in the US and other Western cultures.

I'll speak only of what I know of my husband's culture. Women are very independent. They are expected to provide for themselves and their children, though the father is also expected to contribute to the care of the child. Boys and girls are valued equally, but there is a double standard. Women are expected to have only one husband or lover, but men can have as many wives or lovers as they like. (NOT my husband! He knows he'd lose something very important if he tried and anyway he disapproves of polygamy or having children with more than one woman. He understands how it holds a culture back economically and developmentally.)

Men and women do not act as partners in a relationship. They are separate entities. Men do not share much with their wives, and probably wives don't share much with their husbands. They have closer relationships with their friends and siblings than with their lovers.

These are the biggest differences.

Africa is a pretty big place, but from what I have heard, women and children are treated with absolutely NO respect.

This is not meant to be sarcasm. This is an orderly presentation of facts. People do do things different ways in different places.
The male is not monogomous. He has several mates and childeren are not from one person. Here in the west this behavior is unacceptable, but Africa is a different place with many different ways of doing things.
