Im not very technically minded, all I want to do is play MP3's etc that are stored on my laptop through my home stereo!

Most home stereos use leads with red and white plugs to get the stereo sound from an external source (these are called RCA plugs in the US). If yours uses these stereos (and 90% are) and assuming your laptop uses a standard headphone socket, then you needs one of the leads on the links below:

A stereo Y cable going from a 1/8" jack to 2 RCA jacks should do the trick. Connect the 1/8" jack to your audio out in the laptop and the 2 RCA's to an available audio input of your stereo.

Assuming that your stereo has an rca input ( looks like 2 circles one red and one white) you can always get a cord called an rca to stereo (http://www.procommusic.co.uk/images/Minijack Stereo - 2 RCA cable 3m.jpg?osCsid=1cda98074950efbf89ab2c0ebc0f9e92 picture of it) What you want to do is hook the stereo cord to the hedphone jack of your laptop and the two rca cords to the stereo. Turn on your stereo and goto input , and play your music on laptop!! Hope this helps, good luck

if your stereo has phono inputs use a minijack to phono lead. if its got a jack input use minijack to jack lead. play it into the aux input on your stereo and from the line out or headphone out on your laptop
