A friend of mine just went through this.
Really, the only thing you can do at this point is go to a doctor and get it cut out. It sucks, but it's better than losing the whole toe to an infection. And nails do grow back, toes do not.

The cotton under the toenail works, also use peroxide on the yucky place. Your toe needs as much fresh air as possible, avoid closed shoes. Do not cut your toenails short, they should come to the end of your toe. When I get out of the shower I use a nail file to clean the dead skin away, be sure to go down each side of the nail, and if you have an outgrowth of nail take care of it then. Hope this helps

Cut a v shape into the middle of your toenail, this way the nail will grow in to bridge the gap so to speak. My father suffered ingrown toenails many years and this was the only thing that worked for him.
To maintain, cut it into more of a u shape or straight across, I do this now and it's helped me from getting them as well.
Everyone I'd told this to has helped them, I do not know why docs don't tell people this, maybe because then you wouldnt even need to pay them to see them, heh.

I always use a flat tool to pull the overgrown piece of nail out of the wound, then long scissors to cut it off. Also, prevention is easy by avoiding too tight shoes and keeping the toenails trimmed square and not rounded into or toward the skin.

If it isn't too horrible, severely infected, soak your foot/toe until the nail softens, 15 to 20 minutes. Once soft you can gently force the embedded nail out and cut it off. Hurts like a dog, but it's cheaper than a doc visit. If it's infected I suggest going to the doc though.
I get them on occasion and at the first sign, I do what I suggested above.
It helps prevent them if you trim the nail straight across rather than round the corners.

Well, first that is disgusting! But, i think i can help you. let it grow out enough so that you can cut a little V on the end/center of your toenail. Don't cut to close... or it will hurt. It may take a few days, but your toenail should start growing towards the center to close the V and it will become un-ingrown!
Hope that helps!!
Good Luck... It works for me!
DONT GET YOUR TOENAIL CUT OUT!! OWWW!

nicely, you're properly about them doing "surgical procedure"...they extremely regularly reduce out your toenail, after numbing it of direction. And fortunately, it will improve back. i have had some ingrown toenails in my time which I managed to do away with on my own. first of all, basically be sure you're wearing extremely roomy footwear, even perchance open toed sandals...and in the adventure that they contact that toe in any respect you want to head get some footwear that are tremendous huge contained in the toe section. Thats first. yet then to help the toe itself, get some epsom salt, and make a superb water/salt answer. Use warm/warmth water. Soak that foot/toe contained in the water for about 30 minutes. Then once your foot and toenail is amazingly mushy, bypass your pores and skin far out of your toenail. do not reduce the toenail shorter even notwithstanding its tempting because it ought to extremely get even worse. So basically keep doing that some cases an afternoon till it stops turning out to be inwards. If theres a sharp part of the toenail protruding and reducing into your toe, reduce that part of it. The objective is, your toenail is popping out to be into your toe, so that you prefer to pull it with the exception of the toe. i comprehend it hurts undesirable. Take some Advil or Naproxin because you want an anti-inflamatory to take the soreness away/cut back the soreness. also in case you imagine theres an infection, soak it in peroxide for about 10 minutes. If the an infection is deeper interior your toe you'll favor on the minimum, some antibiotics. i do not recommend to scare you about the surgical procedure, i have been advised it would not even harm and the relief is probable worth it. both way, sturdy luck!

You need to go to the podiatrist and have the side of the nail removed and have it permanently removed ... There is a possibility it can come back but more than likely it doesn't
