Once Cuba is ridded of its cummunist government should the United States through non-military means pursue adding Cuba as a 51st state? It would make a great tourism destination!

Yes, I think it should. That country has been thru sooo much. They should be part of the USA and be able to reconstruct that whole country. So many ppl have died trying to escape from that horrible place. They should be given the chance. Before Fidel's brother takes his place (which supposely is already happen)

I'm Cuban-American and both my parents and their families immigrated from Cuba in the 1960's to the U.S. Although anything is certainly possible, it is too early to make a speculation like that. There are many things that have to take place. At this point in history, the US does not show any interest in making it a territory, but rather making sure that it has a democracy. I think that it is in the best interest of Cuba and it's people to decide what THEY want, and not the United States. In fact, the only thing that I want for Cuba, is for the people to be happy and have everything that they need and want. Cuba would certainly benefit from the influx of American tourists if the embargo is lifted. I'd love to visit it some day, but I prefer that they remain their own country.

*BTW, just because we have other current territories does not mean that they will ever become states or have a better possibility to become one than another place. They have to WANT to be a state first and that may never happen.

No Korea is better suited to become Americanized.

Cuba would make a better private Island empire for Oil Companies. With all the Gulf oil and undeveloped Cuban oil. It would be better suited if Private concerns took over Cuba.

Conoco has several platforms close to Cuba Also Shell has considerable interest in the area.

Let the tourists go to Havana Casinos and give the rest of the Island to the Huston Cartell.

Go big Red Go

If Cuba became the 51st state, it would loose it's free health care and it free education (including University). In many western countries now, only the rich can afford these things.

No...I don't think Cuba should become a state.

Why on God's earth would the Cubans want to be a part of the USA. I have been to Cuba and the man in the street definitely is no friend of the Americans. It seems that most of the world shares this sentiment these days.....I wonder why?
Would you like the USA to become a province of Cuba?

no because you have other territories that should become states first. Plus it would take ten years if Cuba ever became a state because of all the red tape. Puetro Rico, Guam or American Samoa have more of a right to become a state before Cuba does. I would like cuba to be part of the US but I do not think it will be possible. And Plus since there is national pride for Cuba will they want to be part of us? Puetro Rico voted to not join us because of their pride. This still really does not make sense to me.

Actullay, no matter how many time we'd want Cuba to be a state, it never will be, for a certain number of reasons.

1. It is a territory of the United States.

2. Everytime elections are held in Cuba to see if they would like to be an independent country or become a part of the U.S., they vote "no." Why? Because right now, they aren't paying any taxes.

Now, you know why.

Don't forget the following areas for statehood, areas that we love and adore:

Mexico

Canada

Israel

Greenland

Britian

These are the best candidates for statehood, they all speak the english language, have people who are educated and can provide a good tax base and have political systems similar to ours and of course they all would like to become one of our states. Just think Governor Tony Blair????

Excuse me Lavina you say that Cuba is US Territory? What color is the sky on your planet???

I'm not sure that "tourism destination" is a great argument for a country to surrender its sovereignty to another nation. Please tell me that you were just having fun with us.

P.S. To Lavinia: Cuba is a U.S. territory? Elections in Cuba? It's a Communist dictatorship.
