People who think it's a made-up illness are talking out of their a$$.
They say that out of COMPLETE ignorance and (obviously) no experience whats-so-ever.
I have 2 sons 1 1/2 years apart, both raised with the same parents, same household, same treatment, my oldest son was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 10. I KNEW something was not right when he was 2 years old, but it took us, parents, teachers, health professionals, a long time to figure it out.
He was on medication for about 6 years and the difference was night and day, he could concentrate, stay on task, remember things, sleep at night, think before he shouted out.
He said he was glad to have treatment because he knew that he was different and as hard as he tried he couldn't "right the ship".

BTW, My youngest son, who was raised right along side my older son, had a healthy, normal childhood.
So, no matter what people say, it's not caused by slack parenting, too much TV, inactive life-style or many of the other STUPID things that the mis-informed think it is.

Cheers!

Attention Deficit Disorder
Attention Deficit / Hyperactive Disorder

My opinion: Two completely made-up 'diseases' that try to give parents who don't teach their kids discipline an excuse as to why their offspring act like jerks.

Go to a country like Germany where kids are frickin' kept in line for the most part... they're not talking about ADD very much.

ADD is attention deficit disorder. A doctor or psychologist gives a person suspected of having it specific written or oral tests. People with ADD often have a hard time focusing and paying attention.

ADHD is similar. It means attention deficit hyperactive disorder. People with this not only have a hard time paying attention but also have a hard time staying still.

Attention Deficit Disorder is a chemical imbalance that maes it difficult for you to be attentitive and organized etc. Kids with this diagnosis are more likely to get in trouble for not paying attention, being messy etc before they are diagnosed. have trouble getting their homework done. They now know it follows someone into adulthood.

ADHD just adds hyperactivity to the mix. Think of the kid in your class that could never sit still, was always in trouble with the teacher and the other kids for doing something out of the ordinary. Some are considered to be funny (one of my friends has this type of son) while others are considered to be down right strange. (another friend has this type of son).

Like everything else there are varying levels of it and it is more common with boys han with girls. Saying that it is also less likely to be noticed with girls (this has been documented) as they are less likely to be disruptive. Just daydreamers and sit and stare out the window.

Neither of these has anything to do with levels of intelligence. Many are very bright. My friend's sn has a scholarship to university as did his Dad. It can run in families.
