A Gonk is a small furry soft toy, extremely popular in the 1980s as an affectionate gift in the UK. They are usually plush toys, animal in nature but of no discernable species. They have no legs or arms (sometimes small flaps of material instead serve this purpose) and large appealing eyes. The word gonk probably derives from the German 'gonken' which means 'fabulous' or 'mythical', and fits in with the Gonk's troll-like status.
