There is no easy way to let someone down. I suggest you just tell him the truth about how you feel but at the same time maybe you can throw in some compliments for his self-esteem. For example, I'm sorry, you are a great guy but I just don't feel that way towards you. Maybe you can be friends with him or just a compliment will be fine.

There really is no easy way to tell a guy that you are not interested in him that way. Not to be cliche, but no guy wants to hear from someone he likes" I think we should just be friends" when he cares for the other person. The best approach would be to be totally honest and sincere about it. I am not saying be rude and harsh and drive him into the ground, but treat him as though he was, is , and you still want him to be your friend. If the friendship ends just because you say you are not interested then there never was much of a friendship anyways. The best of luck.

Just tell him you're not interested. Hurt feelings are a fact of life. It is inescapable, and you can't reject someone without hurting someone's feelings. They'll get over it.

Well, any answer you give him other than yes is going to sting for a while. Best thing is to not let this drag. Tell him the truth, that you don't feel the same way.
